Fund Raising Activities

Quartets on Parade

We are proud to promote and preserve barbershop music. This style of vocal harmony is a uniquely American art form.

As sponsors of over sixty annual performances of barbershop music since 1948, we take pride in featuring well-known performers and new talent.  We raise funds by selling advertisements in the program describing the evening’s performance and from ticket sales at the door.  Our show program contains ads from many of the businesses surrounding our area and we would appreciate you patronizing these sponsors.

For your convenience in referencing our sponsor businesses throughout the next year, you may download your personal copy of the 2019 71st Quartets on Parade show program.

Please support the Wardensville Lions Club by frequently patronizing these merchants.

Community Service Events

Annual Senior Citizens Valentines Dinner

Each year the Wardensville Lions Club honors our community’s senior citizens by inviting them to be our guests for a free, Valentines dinner with all the trimmings. This celebration also features music and entertainment.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Children, ages ten and younger, gather at our Town Park to celebrate the season by participating in our annual egg hunt.  Lots of fun, Easter candy and special prizes make this an event both children and adults enjoy.

Vision Conservation

One of the major goals of this Lions Club is vision conservation. We do this by supporting eye examination clinics and providing needy community members with assistance to obtain eye glasses. We also donate to the WV Lions Sight Conservation Foundation, Inc. We participate in special mobile testing projects for eye pressure and diabetes education.

Library

Lions support the library with donations required to maintain this service. Club members assist the library staff and help with fund-raising activities. In addition to a fine selection of books, the library also provides computers and Internet connection

Story Time

Story Time is a reading program for the little ones of our community. Children ages up to 10 years old meet at the Wardensville Library every Wednesday morning at 10:00 am.  The program lasts about an hour and includes a game activity, a crafts activity, a snack and a story read by a different guest reader each week.  The children are given a copy of the book that is read to take home with them. Reading to children at a young age is one of the best ways to introduce literacy concepts and encourage a love of reading.

Youth

We award annual scholarships for academic achievement. We donate to the Wardensville Scholarship Fund and East Hardy High School Academic Achievement Awards. We support other learning experiences for youth in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Hardy County 4-H and East Hardy High School band. We also assist students with travel funds needed to attend events such as Boys and Girls State, youth science project competitions and other similar events.

We support the Lions International Youth Exchange Program by hosting students from abroad travelling to the US and sponsoring West Virginia youth interested in travelling abroad.

Youth interested in participating in the Youth Exchange Program can receive more information at the Lions Club International Youth Exchange website   and at the

West Virginia Lions Club website  - then scroll down to Youth Camps & Exchange.

We are always looking for families interested in hosting youth from abroad.  Don't be afraid to encounter an experience that will forever change your life and that of a youth from another part of the world.

Town Park

Wardensville Lions members donate many hours each year in fund-raising activities to support Town Park amenities such as the swimming pool, hiking trails, baseball diamond and family picnic areas. Club members also assist with grounds maintenance and other repairs.

Trash Cleanup

Each year we clean up litter tossed along roads we have adopted as participants in the WV Adopt-A-Highway program.
