Press Release  January 2020

Wangi Lions and Wangi Mens Shed combine to provide catering services for West Fire Emergency

There has been a lot of activity at Wangi Mens shed over the last week as Wangi Lions Club and Wangi Mens Shed combined resources to provide catering services for the Rural Fire Service and NSW Fire and Rescue, who were responding to the west Wangi Fire.

The activity started on New Years day when Wangi Lions Club was approached to provide firefighters with sandwiches for lunch. When the task subsequently expanded to provide full catering services, the two clubs combined to provide catering for at times over 100 fire-fighters using the facilities of Wangi Mens Shed.

In a combined statement Bruce Macfarlane and Greg Cross , presidents of the respective clubs, said “Our combined resources have been tested over the last few days but we have managed to sustain our efforts with the incredible support from local businesses and the community generally. Their generosity has been much appreciated by the firefighters”.

The operations continued over 5 days with a total of about 800 meals being provided as well as 300 snack packs.
