WHO ARE UCKFIELD & DISTRICT LIONS

Unknown to most people, Uckfield Lions is part of Lions International which was founded in 1917 & now has 45,000 clubs in 206 countries and 1.35 million members throughout the world. This makes Lions International the world's largest service club organization. The first club in the UK was formed in London in 1950. The Lions International motto is ‘We Serve’. ‘Ordinary People doing Amazing Things’

In the beginning, Lions were best known for fighting blindness & still carry on the good work today. Lions also volunteer for many different kinds of community projects – including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding senior citizens and the disabled

Uckfield & District Lions Club was formed in 1969 & have been serving Uckfield and surrounding villages from Hadlow Down to Blackboys and from Newick to Framfield since that date. More recently, since the closure of Heathfield Lions, we now extend some of our activities into Heathfield. We have an annual Charter celebration in February to celebrate the formation of the club.

We are a mixed club, some will say very mixed, of 33 members from a variety of backgrounds. The membership currently includes four Student Members who were previously members of our Leo Club. We all have one thing in common; we want to help others in the local community by fund raising & giving some of our spare time to help organisations & those in need We also enjoy a healthy social life and get together for such things as pub meals, bbq’s & theatre trips We have an associate membership called Friends of Lions who, with members’ partners & wives, help at many club activities. We would not be able to achieve what we do without their support.

In 2011 Uckfield & District Lons Club opened their secondhand bookshop & in July 2014 moved to purpose built premises in Olives Yard, just off the High Street opposite NatWest Bank. The shop is now well established & raises in excess of £12,000 each year for good causes. See our projects page for more details.

Uckfield & District Lions Club has been running a Community Minibus since 2002 & in 2014 made the decision to raise funds to replace the minibus to enable this valuable service within the local community to continue. See our projects page for more details.

If you would like to be involved with Uckfield Lions, why not come along to one of our meetings & find out more of what we do in the community. For more information please see our contact page
