Dear Lions & Friends,
We are pleased to inform you that we have applied for our e-clubhouse on the Lions International Website and will have it soon. Also our club now has its official email - lionsclub.thane@gmail.com - from where you will be receiving a monthly or bi-weekly report to keep you informed of activities and events of the month past and the month to come.
Events -
We had our 56th Cabinet installation on 28th June, 2013 @ Maria Plaza from 8:00 PM onwards. Inspite of the heavy rains and Traffic logjam on EE Highway, we had several dignitaries visiting us from govandi, chembur, ghatkopar, colaba etc. There were 55 attendees in total including our members. Lion Kishore Tijare was our installing officer and he conducted our installation in a novel manner using the district and international theme. He also presented us with a beautiful banner to use for the whole year (photo attached) for which we express our utmost thanks.
Lion Rajeush Ballamwar was our inducting officer and he inducted the new members in an inspiring manner. We have 6 new members in our fold. Lion Sunil Joshi, Lion Dr. Rahul Sonawane, Lion Milind Korde and Lion Shrishti Gupta were inducted on that day. Lion Vishwajit Gaikwad and Lion Nitin Pawar have confirmed membership will be inducted in our next general meeting. We welcome you to our club and to Lionism. Lion Subhash Bhalwal presented the officers with club officers medallions, for which we express our gratitude.
Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Lion B.N.Haria by the District Representatives.
Our club made a donation of INR 2501/- as memento to Lion Kishore Tijare and Lion Rajeush Ballamwar, which they forwarded to the Lions Uttarakhand relief fund.
We also made a declaration of our permanent project concept which the President has also forwarded to the Hon. Commissioner, TMC this month. Positive feedback has been received from the authorities and we will update you on the status of the project soon. Copies of the same were handed out to all present. A pin for most dedicated service to the club was presented to Lion Hariaji by the President. International pin presented by Past International Director A P Singh to the President for visionary ideas, on day of Officer's schooling was re presented to him by Lion Tijareji. President also presented pins to Lion Dongre, Lion Batule and Lion Bhattacharya for completing their first year in Lionism.
Officer's Training organised by the District was on 9th June and was attended by 3 officers.
1st Region advisory meet was on 14th June @ Maria Plaza and was attended by 3 officers.
1st Zonal advisory/ Region staff meet was on 13th July @ Utsav and was attended by 4 officers.
District Governor welcome home function was held on 14th July @ Agri-Koli Sanskriti Hall, Nerul and was attended by 2 members. Press coverage for the event was aided by the President.
Activities -
SightFirst :
We sparked off our campaign with an inauguration ceremony on 6th July, 2013 at TMC school no. 39/122 at Hajuri. Hon. Addl Commissioner Shyamsundar Patil was the Chief Guest and Hon. Education officer Ashalata Patil was guest of honour. There were total 35 attendees. All the clubs of Thane sent representatives along with the region chairperson. The school children performed Saraswati vandana and other songs for us. 268 children and 35 adults were checked.
This event was well covered in the press and was a good image building exercise for Lions.

Second camp was held on 22nd July, 2013 at TMC school no. 130/95/131 at Kajuwadi. Hon. Addl Commissioner Shyamsundar Patil inspected the school, checked the quality of the mid-day meal given to children and interacted with us on various issues. There were total 7 attendees. 663 children and 43 adults were checked.
Third camp was held on 23rd July, 2013 at TMC school no. 22 at Savarkar Nagar. There were total 5 attendees. 159 children and 15 adults were checked.
309 persons are in need of spectacles. These have been ordered at a cost of INR 20,850/-. We thank Bakul Haria for Donating INR 3030/- and Lion Rajeush Ballamwar for promising
INR 10,000/-. We need to raise further INR 7830/- towards spectacles cost for this month.

Swayam Rozgaar :
Under the self-employment generating scheme of District Activiites committee, 2 sewing machines were donated to women working as domestic helps on 14th July at the Governor's welcome home function. Education & Literacy :
Our new member Lion Sunil Joshi has initiated the process of opening computer centres in village clusters at Nandurbar. We request all members wanting to donate old computers to please get in touch with us. We will undertake repair, transport, installation and maintenance. One centre with 8 computers is already up and running.
Fellowship :
We declare Wednesday as Lions Club of Thane Fellowship day. We have initiated an open forum for any member of any club to come and discuss any issue with us from 6 to 7:30 PM at our offices - C/o B.N. Hariaji. We request all members especially new members to please take full advantage of this and come interact with us as frequently as they can, without invitation.
A list of all member Birthdays and anniversaries is being compiled. Please SMS - Date of Birth/ Marriage Anniversaries/ Date of Death of deceased member to Lion Makarand Chitnis (Please include data of your spouse and children). We shall discuss a manner of small celebration for each of our members this year, in the next meeting.
