BURNS NIGHT

An enjoyable evening was had by all when Members and Friends of Surrey Border Lions Celebrated Burns Night at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, Virginia Water

WINDLESHAM PRAM RACE

Several members of Surrey Borders helped with the annual Windlesham Pram Race on Boxing Day 2017 where 650 runners pushing some 85 prams around the course raised substantial monies for a variety of charities

CHRISTMAS BUCKET SHAKES

Thanks to the generosity of the customers at Longacres and Waitrose (Sunningdale) Surrey border Lions raised a substantial sum of money which will enable the Club to continue supporting local people and organisations during the next twelve months.

GIFT CARDS FROM LIONS

Following the success of replacing Christmas food parcels with Stores Gift Cards, Surrey Border Lions Club distributed over 70 Co-operative Store Gift Cards at a cost of £2,330 to elderly residents and needy families which will benefit over 150 local residents in our three villages (Bagshot, Lightwater and Windlesham).

FESTIVO 2017

On Monday 11th December Surrey Border Lions travelled to Windsor Castle to join the congregation at Festivo 2017 in St. George's Chapel for a concert of music and readings, where the Choir of St George’s Chapel and musicians from the Band and Bugles of The Rifles produced an unforgettable sound of Christmas.

LIGHTWATER FAYRE IN THE SQUARE

The Surrey Border Lions Children’s Squidgy Ball Lucky Dip Stall at the Lightwater Christmas Fayre in the Square raised £50.50 (which equates to 101 squidgy dippers).

LAPTOP COMPUTER FOR LIGHTWATER CARE

Surrey Border Lions have purchased a Dell Laptop with pre-installed Windows 10 Professional, Microsoft Office 2010 and AVG 12 antivirus for Lightwater Care (a local voluntary transport group) to help them with the administrative aspects of their charitys' work.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

Surrey Border Lions were represented at the Remembrance Sunday services held in our three villages. Poppy wreaths were laid by Club Officers at St Annes Bagshot, All Saints' Lightwater and St Johns Windlesham.

SURREY BORDER LIONS ANNUAL GOLF EVENT RAISES OVER £400 FOR STIPERSTONES CARE HOME

Surrey Border Lions Club held its annual golf competition in brilliant autumn sunshine at the Pine Ridge Golf Club on 8th October 2017.

The event is aimed at golfers, who may not have the opportunity to play in any other competition, and participants twist the arms of friends and relatives to sponsor their golf score.  The proceeds of this years golf competition will go towards the provision of a canopy over the patio at Stiperstones Care Home in Chobham.

The Surrey Border Lions golf competition has been held for over twenty years and has raised in excess of £26,000 for local causes.

SURREY BORDER LIONS AWARDS PRESENTATIONS

Surrey Border Lions President Rob Evison presents Lion Geoff Mitchell with a twenty five year award and Lion Rob Gibson who is a Charter Member of Surrey Border Lions with a forty five year award; Welfare Officer Lion Avis Maddison received the Surrey Border Lions “Lion of the Year” award in recognition of the work she carries out on behalf of Surrey Border Lions.

RIDING FOR THE DISABLED GYMKHANA

Members of Surrey Border Lions Club attended the recent Riding for the Disabled Gymkhana at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and presented rosettes to riders from four schools taking part and the “Lions’ Trophy” which was awarded to Bagshot Infant School

EGGSTRAVAGANSA

Once again thanks to the support of local businesses and the generosity of the people in Bagshot, Lightwater and Windlesham, Surrey Border Lions have raised £600 in their annual “Name Card” Eggstravaganza; the proceeds of which will be donated to the Lions District appeal for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance.

Surrey Border Lions along with many other Lions Clubs in the District participate in the appeal started in 2012 to raise £250,000 over 10 years to help support night flying equipment for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance. The charity began operating a 24-hour service just over a year later and the Lions have now reached their quarter of a million pounds fundraising target – five years ahead of schedule

SURREY BORDER LIONS CELEBRATE THEIR 37th ANNIVERSARY

On 7th May Surrey Border Lions celebrated their 37th anniversary of the Club receiving its’ Charter with a luncheon at Camberley Heath Golf Club. Members and Friends were joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Surrey Heath John and Di Winterton, along with fellow Lions from the Guildford and Woking Clubs.

As usual the meal and the venue lived up to expectations and everybody enjoyed being entertained at their table by Magician Lee Ferriday (www.leeflorida.co.uk) one of the top magicians in the UK performing his unbelievable sleight-of-hand magic. In addition, Raconteur Mel Rees (www.trouser-press.biz) a well-known local author and speaker ensured everyone returned home with a smile on their face with his excellent light-hearted look at life.

100 DEFIBRILLATOR CHALLENGE

One of the many Lions Club International Centennial projects is to the install 100 defibrillator units across the South East of England by the end of the official Centenary activity period in July 2018. To this end, Surrey Border Lions have agreed with the Windlesham Pram Race Trustees to share the cost of funding the purchase and installation (~£1600) of a defibrillator for Windlesham.

RIDING FOR THE DISABLED TROPHY PRESENTATION

Surrey Border Lions Club President Rob Evison recently visited the Riding for the Disabled Group at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to present a trophy to be awarded to a special rider or group of riders next term.

VALENTINE'S DAY HAMPER NAME CARDS

The Surrey Border Lions Valentine's Day Hamper Name Card project in aid of Riding for the Disabled at Sandhurst raised over £1,200.
