History of the Summit Hill Lions Club
The Summit Hill Lions Club was chartered on March 30, 1999. There were 32 charter members. Of the original members 20 are still active and 2 are deceased. The Jim Thorpe Lions Club was our sponsoring club.
Summit Hill residents have long been involved with the Lions. For many years Summit Hill residents were members of the Lansford Lions Club. However, that club disbanded almost 20 years ago.
In the Spring of 1999 several Summit Hillers of the former Lansford Lions Club decided to start a new club in town. Under the able leadership of departed Lion Jerome Rhodunda, the clubs first president, members were recruited and the club organized.
Membership remained in the low 30's for many years. It wasn't until 2007 when the club made a concerted effort to increase membership. It was at that time the first woman joined the club and things began to take off. Membership increased steadily and many new projects and activities were begun. Currently, our membership stands at 44.
From our humble beginnings it is with Lion pride that "We Serve" our community as we hope to do for many years to come.
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
