Las Vegas Ballpark Tour

On Sept 25th fifteen of our members & guests were granted a 1 1/2 hr.  A + private tour of the Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the LV Aviators.

Tour Guide, Gary, was topnotch and staff member, Jenna, gave each  us a orange cap and a bottle of water.   The  cap had a logo depicting a pilot wearing a flight helmet. The event started with a trivia game . Three winners were each awarded a large Welcome Las Vegas Sign.

The winners were PDG Audrey Williams, Jim Cassidy, and Bruce Schoenberger.

We toured behind the scenes ( Broadcast tv booth, Press area,  brand new, clean, stadium with cool comfortable mesh seats) . practice areas, party suites, outfield bars and picnic area, kids play area, outdoor pool, and much more.

Following the tour we went to have a light dinner arranged by Lion Marie Stamatolates. The food was delicious at the MacKenzie River Pizza, located upstairs in the practice facility of Golden Knights.

This was a special treat to see each other after being at home so long during the pandemic.

Our next fall social will be a Tour of Allegiant Stadium.

Take me out to the ball game......
The first Beep Ball Practice took place.....the results were fantatic.   Everyone had a great time.   They promise to come back with more players.   The students at Coral Academy had a wonderful time as well.   They certainly made a postitive difference in the lives of the visually impaired beep ball players.   Want to see this amazing event in person?  Practices are being held every Tuesday and Thursday @ 2:30pm at the park across the street from Coral Academy.    Contact Al Van Gordon for additional information.     Click on the attached link to see a small section of their first practice.

The Mesquite Egg Hunt was a huge success
Members of the Las Vegas Summerlin Lions Club spent the day before Easter putting smiles on hundreds of children at the Annual Easter Egg Hunt.    A few thousand eggs were put out at Marilyn Redd Park in Mesquite for a couple hundred kids to "hunt".  They had a fantastic time.  Before the actual egg hunt got started.  They were able to get their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny (Lion Michael Schaffer) and the Easter Duck (Lion Brenda Matson).   The local newspaper took a few pictures and wrote a nice story.....we were on the front page!   Thank you everyone who attended....hope to have even more people at next year's event.    Special thanks to Lion Diane Wild for inviting all of us to her condo on Friday evening for a home cooked spaghetti dinner.  It was a great pot luck event!

White Cane Days - Update as of 9/26/15
Thank you to everyone who volunteered at White Cane Day today.    We had a few volunteers who were able to come out for the day and others who came out for a few hours.   All in all, the good work of our club members raised a little over $455 today.   That is a nice amount of money going towards vision programs.    Don't forget, we are doing this again in October.   If you weren't able to come out today, hopefully you can come out in October.    Thank you to Diane W., our Pal Al, Esther, Bill and Judi,  Ardis and Michael.  Those are people I'm aware of, if there was anyone else, please let me know so that I can add them to the list.

We'll  need your help for the second upcoming    White Cane Days events.    We will be at two IHOP locations - Trailwood Drive in Summerlin and the Las Vegas Blvd location (in front of the outlet mall).  The hours at both locations will be 9am until 4pm.

Last year the Summerlin Lions Club was the club that collected the most money in District 46 (the whole state of Nevada) during White Cane Days.

All monies collected during White Cane Days support vision programs.   If everyone comes out for a two hour shift sometime between 9a-4p during one of the two days- remember we have two locations to cover.    Please send an email  letting us know which location and what times you will be able to volunteer at.   Help  us make a difference in the lives of those that are suffering with vision problems.....plus we'll be spreading the word about Lionism at the same time.   Emails should be sent to:  LVSummerlinLions@gmail.com

Girl Scout Troop 566 collected and donated 24 pairs of eye glasses.  Lions Michael and Al attended.  Michael accepted the eye glasses and explained the process from collecting to distributing.   These scouts did a good job and know they know about Lionism too.

CLUB POLO SHIRTS
If you would like your very own Lion's purple polo with your name embroidered on it send an email with your name as you would like it to appear and your shirt size.  Ladies and men's polo shirts are available.   Cost $18 per shirt.   LVSummerlinLions@gmail.com

Thank you to all who brought school supplies to the August General Meetings.   The supplies will be donated to one of the many schools that have a large number of families that are struggling.  The members of the LV Summerlin Lions Club were so generous donating school supplies that we were able to put together 3 boxes of fairly evenly distributed items.  Now we can help 3 schools, instead of just one school.   Great job everyone!

The memory of Joe Trempus was honored at Lotza Fun Summer Camp

The campers at Lotza Fun Summer Camp learned a little about Joe Trempus this past week.  The camp was lucky enough to have Barbara Trempus spend a few hours at the camp.  She enjoyed watching the campers  having a wonderful time.   Lion Lisa Schaffer presented Lion Barbara with a certificate from District 46.  Lion Barbara presented the camp with donations that were given to the camp in Joe's name.   The Trempus Family also donated $1,000 towards the camp.    Thank you to everyone who donated to the camp in Joe's name.
