What is a Lions Club?

A Lions Club is a local branch of Lions clubs International, which is a World Wide community service organisation with around 1.3 million members in a 42,000 clubs operating in 205 countries in all geographical locations. The first Lions Club was formed in Chicago in 1917. Lionism came to Britain in 1949, and there are now about 900 clubs here, with a total membership of over 21,000. Southborough was formed in 1981 as an offshoot of Tunbridge Wells Lions Club. The area covered by the club includes Tunbridge Wells, Pembury, High Brooms, Bidborough, Speldhurst and, of course, Southborough. Lions clubs are formed by community minded individuals to help the less fortunate members of a community. Unlike other organisations there are no rules on membership other than that each individual should be of good standing in the community and be able to work with his or her fellow human beings in a harmonious way. Since we were formed, we have raised many thousands of pounds with our fund raising events to help many people and organisations primarily in the local community but also world wide. Our main fund raising events are Gala Day in June and our Darts Competition in April and May, and not forgetting our Christmas collections around the area with our sleigh. It is not all work and no play. We do socialise with "Nosh & Natters", Barbecues and other social events.

We also have a supply of MIAB (Message in a Bottle)

See our MIAB page for full details

There is no charge for this service. If required, contact any member on  our contact page.

To help us keep up with past accomplishments we need new members.

Once upon a time it was an all male club, but not anymore.

We are a small but friendly club and would welcome anybody that would like to become a ."Friend of Lions" This a way to help but not have full commitment.

So would you like to join us? If so, contact our Membership Secretary, Sylvi or any member on the directory page.

We meet every third Thursday in the month for our Business meeting at Southborough Mens Club in Forge Road at 8 PM and the same time for our Fund Raising meeting on the first Thursday and our Welfare on the second Thursday.

See us on  and
