Anyone 19 and over is welcome to attend a meeting to see what the Lions is all about. New members are always welcome.

The Souris Lions Club was officially chartered on July 27, 1955 at a special meeting of the Charlottetown Lions Club held at the Royal Canadian Legion Charlottetown. Our Sponsoring Club, represented by Lion T.L. “Babs” Fitzgerald, presented our charter to a pride of fledgling Souris Lions, represented by Clair Richards.

The Souris Club which was organized by Calvin Welch, has had its ups and downs over the years. Initially the club had 22 members but over the years, membership has dropped to as low as 14 members and as high as 52 members. Currently the Souris Lions Club has 29 members.

Of the original 22 members Lion Wally MacKenzie was the last living Charter member of the Souris Lions Club. He left the Souris Lions in 1970 to continue his association with Lionism in the Parkdale-Sherwood Lions Club of Prince Edward Island.

The Souris Lions Club has held their meeting is a variety of locations over the years: schools, hotels, member’s homes. At present the Souris Lions Club meet in the basement of the Souris Legion.

As the Souris Lions Club looks to the futur we will be seeking service-minded men and women who are interestedin improving their communities. To become a Lion is to become an active volunteer, a member of a respected international organization, a leader in your community and a friend to people in need.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
