Once again, members of the Somerville Metro Lions Club marched in the Somerville St Patrick's Day Parade, this time on March 10, 2019.
We were joined by members of the District 16 Cabinet and the Lions Eyemobile.

Dist 16J Charitable FUNdraiser was on Saturday, February 16th.  Our Club was represented by Lions Rogel, Ivy, Alex, and Nelda, and Zone 4 was represented in total by 3 clubs.
The Sweetheart Dance event, an annual event, is the only fundraising activity of the Charitable Foundation of our district and is a worthwhile event to attend, not only for the fun aspect and camaraderie with fellow Lions in the district, but more importantly, it is a noble cause to raise money for the various charity projects of our district.

On Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, the Somerville Metro Lions Club brought more than a thousand used eyeglasses that we collected over the past 4 months.  We spent 4 hours at the facility sorting donated eyeglasses and we were able to fill up several boxes of sorted items.

SMLC celebrated its 11th anniversary last October 14, 2018 at Bridgewater Manor in Bridgewater, NJ. The highlight of the celebration was the induction of 3 new members and the installation of the club officers for 2018-2019.  As part of its celebration and as a fundraising activity, the club published its 11th souvenir journal whose cover is shown above, designed by Lion Rogel Bautista, the club's 11th and 3-time president.  According to Lion Rogel, the design, showing a picture of Denali National Park that he took during his visit there last summer, is "our club’s representation of this year’s Lions Clubs International (LCI) theme that focuses on serving beyond the horizon. There‘s the picture of SMLC Lions marching toward the horizon, a march that faces challenges but very rewarding – this speaks much about our Lion journey.  To quote the LCI President Gudrun Yngvadottir:

THERE IS ALWAYS AN OBSTACLE. LIONS CHANGE OBSTACLES INTO OPPORTUNITIES."

SMLC members serve at the SHIP lunch for the homeless/needy community members every 2nd Thursday of the month.

SMLC donated to the PhillippinesFor the holidays, the Somerville Metro Lions Club donated to a rural area in the northern Phillippines. We helped them have their Christmas feeding program, which happened last Dec. 22, and they served around 100 kids.  The program included food, games & prizes and giveaways to the kids.
