What do Lions do?                                               2024

The Smyrna Jonquil Lions Club, chartered in 2012, continues the mission of Lions Club International challenged by Hellen Keller in 1925 to lead a “crusade against darkness”.  We are an enthusiastic, committed group of volunteers dedicated to making our community a better place by helping others via community service.                          2024 marks 12 years of service.

Smyrna Jonquil Lions gratefully accepts donations, however, virtually all funds are raised during our Annual Car Show.  We actively support the Georgia Lions Lighthouse, the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind, Vision Rehabilitation Services (VRS), the Georgia Blind Sports Association, MUST Ministries and the Cobb County Lions Screen Team.                                                            Our Annual Car Show is our only fundraiser each year.

Smyrna Jonquil Lions Club is an active participant of the Cobb County Lions “Screen Team” - a partnership with other Cobb County Lions Clubs.  The Screen Team conducts vision screenings in schools, churches – anywhere on request.  This past school year we completed approximately 25,000 vision screenings in 50 Cobb County elementary schools.                   Lions Clubs associated with the Screen Team  pay for eye exams & glasses for those who cannot afford professional eye care.

The Smyrna Jonquil Lions Club partners with the Georgia Blind Sports Association (GBSA) supporting a variety of activities (tandem bike rides, kayaking, soccer, goal ball and golf clinics).  On May 24-26 2024 GBSA will host a regional qualifying goalball tournament.                      Watch for future announcements of GBSA activities.

The Smyrna Jonquil Lions Club supports the Keep Smyrna Beautiful Adopt-a-Mile trash clean-up along the Spring Road linear park quarterly.                                                                              Next Adopt-A-Mile 13 April 2024.  Come join us!

The Georgia Lions Lighthouse resumed the eyeglass recycle program (suspended during COVID restrictions).  The Smyrna Jonquil Lions Club continues to collect eyeglasses in support of this program.  There are collection boxes at various public locations in Smyrna.                       In 2022 donated 1000 pair of eyeglasses, working to repeat.

We welcome new members and encourage you to join us as we strive to meet the special needs in our community.  We extend a special thanks to volunteers and those who support us in a variety of ways, enabling us to make Smyrna a better place.  Meetings on 4th Tuesday January thru October at 5:00 pm at the Smyrna Community Center.                                                         Join us and help Smyrna Jonquil Lions ROCK!
