Dear Scholarship Applicant:

The Roaring Run Lions Club of Carroll County is a volunteer community service organization.  We are pleased to be able to provide a onetime scholarship opportunity for graduating High School Seniors attending Carroll County High Schools.  Scholarship candidates must submit a completed scholarship application before the indicated deadline.  See Scholarship Application Form and additional requirements below.

Lions Clubs International is the largest volunteer service organization in the world.  We work in over 120 countries and territories.  Lions Club International was founded in 1917 in Chicago, Illinois.  Since the beginning, fellow Lions have served the world's population through hard work, leadership and a strong commitment to make a difference in the lives of people everywhere. Lions are recognized for their service to the blind/visually impaired and to their own communities. Our motto is "WE SERVE." The Roaring Run Lions Club was first chartered on April 1, 1959 at Sandymount Elementary School.

It is through our fund raising activities, within Carroll County, that we are able to provide funding for local scholarships, blindness prevention research/treatment at (Lions Vision Research Foundation) Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital, diabetes research, support volunteer fire departments, Carroll County Library, Maryland Eye Bank, free eye exams and glasses for underprivileged children, and other services worldwide.

COMPLETED scholarship application forms must be received by the Roaring Run Lions Club no later than March 31st accompanied by;

  • A LETTER from the applicant to the Scholarship Committee describing the reasons for needing financial assistance, college/university/trade school plans and other details that the applicant may consider pertinent to the application
  • A COPY of your letter of acceptance to a two or four year college/university/trade school and
  • A COPY of your high school academic transcript (Unofficial copy is accepted)

Selection of Candidates and awards will be made on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Candidate's demonstrated willingness to help himself/herself and others within the community
  • Academic Achievement
  • Demonstrated Financial need
  • Written confirmation of acceptance to an Accredited Two or Four Year College/University/Trade School 
  • Confirmation of residency in Carroll County, Maryland (Woolery's District Resident given priority)

CONDITIONS  A check for the Scholarship will be given to the candidate(s) at a special Lions Club dinner.  An invitation to this dinner and a certificate of award will be received at the High School Awards Ceremony.

(ALL MATERIAL SUBMITTED WILL BE RETAINED & DESTROYED BY THE ROARING RUN LIONS CLUB.)
