Rachel Lions club was chartered in July, 2000 in Winnemucca. Bob Steenbergen inducted the officers and Sharlene Lewis and Kathy Benoit became the Guiding Lions. Since the members came from various areas in Nevada and California, the remote town of Rachel, NV was chosen as our namesake. It was named for the only child born in the valley, Rachel Jones. It is located in Sand Spring Valley, in the southern Nevada high desert, along the worlds only Extraterrestrial Highway, aka Hwy 375. It is about 27 miles north of the top secret Air Force Base Area 51, hence our alien theme. We meet four times a year following District cabinet meetings and the annual convention.
