Night Minding (Session 2) at Brgy. Paang Bundok Q. C.

The Quezon City Cubao Lions Club held its second “Night Minding Session” for the street children of Barangay Paang Bundok in La Loma, Quezon City last 22 March 2011. The project was done in coordination with the barangay officials and staff of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and aims to gather the street children within the vicinity of the La Loma cemetery, and lure them away from the temptations of street life, especially at night. These street children still live with their families, but their parents allow them to roam the streets at night. They either help augment the family income by selling peanuts, chicharon, and similar food items. or the parents simply do not care where their children are at night because they are busy themselves. These children often fall prey into committing petty crimes, while some girls even become victims of early and unwanted pregnancies.

The street children were gathered in the barangay hall for the evening, where they were treated to a cartoon video show and dinner. The evening was also highlighted by an activity wherein the children were given blank sheets of paper and crayons, and were asked to draw as they picture themselves. Some of them were asked to show their work to the audience and explained why they depicted themselves as such in their drawings.

The project was participated in by officers and members of the club who came in full force. Special guests who came to observe the project included the District Governor and the District Cabinet Secretary. The Quezon City Cubao Lions Club may not be able to totally solve the problem of street children in the city, but we definitely we would want to do our share and make a little difference in the lives of these unfortunate children.

Values Formation and Character Building Seminar- 2nd Batch

The club together with I Am S.T.R.O.N.G. Foundation conducts Values Formation and Character Building Seminar for 53 high school student leaders of Juan Sumulong High School and Camp Emilio Aguinalgo High School, last July 31, 2009 at Rm. AV, Camp Emilio Aguinalgo High School.
