4thJuly 2009:
  1. Pondicherry Light House adopted the two girl children of an young widow, having no support except her meager earnings through odd domestic jobs, to educate them. This year Rs. 17480 was spent for their books, uniform and school fees.
  2. Kum Deepa, who topped in X class public examination among all Puducherry government schools, was awared Rs.3000 cash as an encouragement and appreciation of her performance.
  3. The inmates of SHARON, a home in Puducherry, for old aged and neglected by their kith and kin, were helped with dhothi, saries and towels, and two rice bags.
  4. Mr. Karunamurthy, a glaucoma patient, who does not have any income what so ever and depends purely on a distant cousine, was given financial assistance towards his medical expenses.
24th July 2009:
A blood donation camp was organized by the club at the National Teachers Training Institute, Salavathi, Thindivanam. Though profound enthusiasm was brimming from the student volunteers of the institute, due to technical reasons like age and Hb only thirty four units were bled from the eligible students.
 
15th August 2009:
Our club has celebrated Independence Day with the staff and students of Bharani Kalvi Nilayam, Kakayanthope, Ariyankuppam, Puducherry at 8-00 AM. The school has a strength of 140 students and ten teachers. Children has presented cultural programme for about 40 minutes with National theme. Members and staff and children made the celebrations a grand success. On this occasion, the staff was honoured and the students were presented biscuit packet, note book, pen, pencil and eraser each.
 
26th August 2009:
Mother Theresa Day was celebrated at Annai Blansh Alphonsha Old Age Home, Ariyankuppam, Puducherry. There are 43 senior citizens living in the Home and most of them are aged above 75 years and one woman is 100 years old. Our Club members spent three hours with them to share their feelings and served the inmates a special lunch and dined with divine. The inmates were very happy and enjoyed the food.
 
30th August 2009:
A mega medical camp was held by our club at Kalapet, Puducherry for the sake of the construction workers and their families working in a huge construction site. General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Urology, Optholmology ENT and Dental services were rendered by the medical ad paramedical staff of Aarupadai Veedu Medical College & Hospital. One thousand people were benefited by the Camp which went on morning to evening.
 
15th Sept. 2009:
our club held Teachers Day on 15th at the Government Girls High School, Kalapet, Puducherry. Our club thought that it is the best way to celebrate the birth day of the great Sir Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a great teacher of philosophy and second President of India, amongst the teachers and students of the school which got the distinction of achieving cent per cent result in the public examination held in March/April. Thirty four teachers were honoured and were awarded individual certificate and memento in praise of their efforts and wished to achieve another target.
 
19th Sept. 2009:
Govt. of Puducherry has organized the International coastal cleaning Day on 19th Sept at Gandhi Thidal, Beach Road. Our Light House club was also associated with the govt. departments in this regard. Our members participated in the starting of the service in the morning hours and also in the closing function in the evening and presented mementos to the volunteers of Annamalai University who arrived at Puducherry doing their coastal cleaning en route from Chidambaram. Minister Malladi Krishna Rao inaugurated.

3rd October 2009:
Another medical camp and eye screening camp was conducted at Kandrakotai (near Panruti) for the residents of nearly six villages surrounding the area. Ten doctors and twelve paramedical and technical staff from Ariyur Sri Venkateswara Medical College & Hospital extended their service along with our club members and made it a successful one. In all about 420 villagers got benefited from the camp. Twelve persons were identified for cataract surgery from whom three patients were taken to the hospital the same day.
 
25th of October 2009:
Families of the members of Pondicherry Light House gathered at 3 pm at Andhra Maha Sabha for enjoying the fun of gettogether. After tambola game, children took part in drawing, balloon breaking and musical chairs. Ladies took part in kolam competitions which went on for over 45 minutes and then in musical chairs. Couples took part in brick walking in which ladies and gents walked over the bricks while their spouses placed the bricks quickly. At 6 pm a comedy drama “Ponnu pakka poonaa …..” was staged by the club members, MJF Lion Prof. Ranga Rao, Lion Ramesh Babu, Lion Nagendra Prasad, Lion Sreenivasulu and Lion Vijayakumar. The speciality of the function is that the Governor, Past District Governors and VDG-1 and other dignitaries were present well before the drama was started and enjoyed the presentation.
Following that a brief function was conducted. District Governor, PMJF Lion V. Rathinasabapathy appreciated the activities of the club and distributed the prizes to the winners of the competitions. Immediate Past District Governor, MJF Lion Rajalakshmi Selvaganthi inducted the second batch of new members and presented them pins. PMJF Lion Ashok Kumar Chordia, Past District Governor, presented the MJF Patch and Chevron to the club, and presented membership pins and certificates to the new members joined earlier. PMJF Lion Ananda Rangar Ravichender, Past District Governor, expressed his happiness and enjoyment he had in witnessing the drama. Then he presented the District Directories to the members of the club. PMJF Lion Selvaganthi, Past District Governor, gave his critical comments while appreciating the actors in the drama, and presented awards to the members of the club. MJF Lion Kuppuswamy, VDG-1, MJF Lion R. Mouraly, RC and MJF Lion K. Ravikumar, ZC felicitated.
 
14th November 2009
Childrens Day was celebrated at the Govt. Primary School, Vennila Nagar, Puducherry at 8-30 AM. In spite of the inclement weather prevailed that day, all the 80 children of the school and ten teachers and staff attended the function. The club has honoured all the staff and teachers and presented the children writing material, note book, biscuit packet and chocolates to all the children.
 
17th November 2009:
Eye screening camp was held for the students of the Don Basco School in its premises from 10AM to 3PM. MJF Lion P.M. Baskaran, D.C. for eye camp was the chief guest. Dr. Vanaja Vathiyanathan, Director – Jothi Eye Care & Eye Foundatation, dealt in length how to take care of eyes. In all 319 students of higher classes were screened of whom 19 were prescribed glasses and 9 were referred to the hospital.
 
29th November 2009:
District Governor, PMJF Lion V. Rathinasabapathy made an official visit to our club which was held at Andhra Maha Sabha, Pondicherry.  During that occasion the following projects were undertaken and Thiru K. Sekar, Municipal Councilor was also present.
  1. Twenty chairs were presented to UKG and LKG students of the Govt.Primary School, Vennilanagar, Pondicherry. 
  2. Bed sheets were presented to ten poor people.
  3. Monetary assistance was given to a girl student studying 7th standard. 
  4. Financial assistance of Rs.1000 each was given to five poor young widows having children and finding difficult to manage their home.
23rd December 2009:
Members and their families had a nice outing at Chunnambar near Ariyankuppam on 23rd December afternoon. They had a boat ride to the seashore where they spent some time and enjoyed the nature till evening. Then they returned back as the Sun was setting.
 
The same day at 7 pm a pair of eyes were donated through our club.  Jothi Eye Care & Foundation quickly responded to our request and retrieved two cornia from the deceased, Mr. Shanmugam

24th December 2009

Christmas was celebrated with the inmates of Anne Blanch Alphonsa Home, Ariyankuppam for which Thiru Anand, Chairman, Municipal Corporation, Ariyankuppam was the chief guest. Big Christmas cake was cut and distributed to the inmates by him while the club members with their spouses attended the celebration. Later, bed sheets were distributed to the poor inmates of the home who were very happy.

24th January 2010

On 24th January, during one of our routine visits to aged Home, we extended help to Annai Blansh Alphonsha Old Age Home, Ariyankuppam, Pondicherry. As per the requirement of the Home, two night gowns and a towel were distributed to each of the women inmates.

26th January 2010

On 26th January 2010, Lions Club of Pondicherry Light Hoouse celebrated Rebuplic Day at the Government Primary School, Vennila Nagar, Pondicherry. After hoisting the National Flag, staff, students and parents have assembled. Quiz competition for the children was conducted. Our club has presented cash prize of Rs.300, Rs.200 and Rs.100 to winner, runner and third place teams in addition to the prizes given by the school. Girls have presented a cultural programme to whom, our member, lion Jayabalan presented Rs.300 and encouraged the children. At the end all the children were given sixteen shade crayon packet each and a globe to the school. With National Anthem the celebration was concluded.

 

31st January 2010

On 31st January, Lions Vijayakumar S, Jaya Vijayakumar, Kalaiselvi, Femina Ganapathy, Ramesh Babu, Siva, Sreenivasulu G, Kowsalya, Annamalai, Sravanthi and Ranga Rao joined to have a family tour to Thiruvennainallur to have a darshan of Lord Eswar. Inter club meeting was held at 7 pm same day with the Lions Club of Thiruvennainallur and Kacharapalayam in a kalyana mandapam.

 

23rd March 2010

On 23rd March, Lions S. Ranga Rao, G. Sreenivasulu, S. Vijayakumar, S. Sethupathy, Dr. S. Vivekananda, T. kalaiselvi, Baskaran, T. Nagendra Prasad, Bhaskar, K. Ramesh and Paulraj went to Sarathi Home For Aged at Ariyankuppam, Puducherry.  There they interacted with the inmates of the Home and management.  Later they donated plastic mats to the inmates of the Home as per their requirement.  They also promised to fetch them a pedestrial fan and a cot.

28th March 2010

On 28th March, Lions Club of Pondicherry Light House organised a blood donation camp at Holy Spirit Church, Tagore Nagar, Puducherry-8 from 9-30 AM.  Rev. Fr. Tharsius Arokiasamy inaugurated the camp.  Chief Guest, Lion Jayashree Murugesan, District Chairperson attended the camp while the guests of honour, Rev. Fr. Chinnappa Raj Desam, Lion K. Ravikumar, Zone Chairperson, Ln. S. Vijayakumar, District Chairperson graced the occasion.  Lions Ranga Rao, Sreenivasulu, Ramesh Babu, Nagendra Prasad, Bhaskar, Dr. Vivekanaanda, Annamalai, Kalaiselvi, Femina, Prabagaran and the staff of Indira Gandhi Govt. General Hospital and Post Graduate Institute have also participated.  In all 48 units of blood were donated.

7th April 2010

On 7th April Pondicherry Light House had a DINE WITH DIVINE program at Sarathi Home for the Aged, Ariyankuppam, Pondicherry during lunch hour.  Lunch was arranged for all the inmates and staff of the Home from a hotel and served at Home.  In all thirty five have enjoyed.

13th June 2010

On 13th of June, a general medical checkup for the aged inmates of Sarathy Home for the aged, Ariyankuppam, Puducherry was held.  Ln. Dr. Vivekananda conducted the checkup with the help of the other lions and medicines were despenced.  Four inmates were recommended for cataract surgery.

1st July 2010

  1. Education assistance of Rs.27500 was provided to 4 students.
  2. Rs.4500 was spent to purchase a pedestrial fan and cot for the welfare of the inmates of Sarathy Home for the Aged.
  3. Rs.1500 was spent for the lenses of two senior citizens for whom cataract surgery was done free of cost by Aravind Eye Hospital. 

 24th July 2010

 

Tree plantation was done at the bank of a temple tank near a village, Kandarakottai, Tamilnadu in the presence of the Village Panchayat Head. One hundred seedling were planted and persons were entrusted the work of watering the plants regularly. About 15 lions and 10 village people participated. Rs.5000 was spent for the project.

About 60 physically and mentally challenged babies of Nirmala Sishu Bhavan, Puducherry were fed in which Seven lions took part and Rs.2000 was spent.

Independence Day was celebrated at Barani School, Kakayanthope, Puducherry with 160 students and 12 teachers. All the children were presented note books, pens, pencils and a biscuit packet and the teachers were honoured. Twelve lions participated and Rs.7000 of expenditure was incurred.
 
26th August 2010
 
Mother Theresa Day was celebrated at Bala Sarah’s Home, Kakayanthope, Puducherry, where about 30 challenged children and 55 poor children are dwelling. Dinner was served to them. Eight lions participated and Rs.2000 was spent on the occasion.
 
5th September 2010
 
Peace Poster Contest was held for the school children of age 11 to 13 years at Andhra Maha Sabha, Puducherry. The subject was Vision of Peace. Twenty four students from different schools took part in the contest. Lot of encouragement was there from the parents who stayed for more than two hours. First, second and third prizes of Rs.500, 300 and 200 were given along with a consolation and special prize of Rs.100 each. All the students were presented with a water colour paint box and a participation certificate each. District Chairperson for Peace Poster Contest also took part in the event. Twelve lions and fifteen parents took part in the function for which about Rs.4000 was spent.
 
6th September 2010
 
Teachers Day was celebrated at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Korkadu, Puducherry. The particular school was chosen not only because it is in rural side but also because it is a government school achieving a cent per cent pass in higher secondary examination held in March 2010. There are about 26 teachers and 10 supporting staff. All the teachers were honoured and presented with mementos and appreciation certificates. Ten lions have participated incurring an expenditure of Rs.7000.

A pair of cornea was obtained from the deceased, Mrs. Pachaiammal, mother of Mr. Vengatesan of Kurinji Nagar, Pondicherry and was donated to Jothi Eye Care Foundation, Pondicherry. The bereaved family was given an immediate assistance of Rs.1000 by our club This assistance we made a policy matter to promote eye donation..

Our club got the privilege of hosting the first Zone Advisory Committee meeting of zone 2, Region VII of our district on 17th September 2010 at Andhra Maha Sabha. President, Secretary, Treasurer and first Vicepresident of Pondicherry Excellence, Pondicherry Light House, Pondicherry Paventhar Bharathidasan and Thirukkanur participated. Region Chairperson, MJF Lion K. Ravikumar spoke on the occasion.

Our President, Secretary, Treasurer, D.C. and Z.C. have attended the MERLOW Meet held at Hotel Green Park, Pondicherry, in which PMJF Lion K.G. Ramakrishnamoorthy Imm. PID was the Chief Guest and PMJF Lion V. Rathinasabapathy inaugurated the seminar.

Family get-together of Lioness and Lions members and 3rd Charter Anniversary was held at Andhra Maha Sabha. Past District Governors PMJF,Lion P. Ashok Kumar Chordia, PMJF Lion S. Selvaganthi and PMJF Lion Rajalakshmi Selvaganthi, District Chairpersons, PMJF Lion P. Ponnuram, Lion M. Ganesh and Lion Jaishree Murugesan participated. Our lioness members presented Villu Pattu and lion members presented a one hour thought provoking comedy drama,   “Kailasathil Court” which was appreciated by one and all.
 
3rd November 2010
 
Diwali Celebration was held at Cuddalore by the District Chairperson, Lion Purushottaman. About 630 orphan children were presented with new dress and provided dinner on the occasion. Our club was one of the sponsors of the celebration and donated Rs.5000.

In continuation to the resolution taken in a meeting of Pondicherry Lions held on 21st November at the Lions Trust Building, Pondicherry, our club has donated Rs.25000, including that of Rs.10000 by our Z.C., Lion Prof. S. Ranga Rao for purchase of an ambulance, as promised.

18th December 2011

District Governor, MJF Lion P. Kuppusamy had his visitation to our club at Andhra Maha Sabha, Pondicherry at 7 PM on 18th December during which occasion, the following service projects were undertaken.

  1. As part of Don Bosco Church's programme to provide new dress to the children of orphanage, our club provided dress for 15 boys at a cost of Rs.3300.
  2. Bed sheets were given to ten poor old people, for protecting themselves from the winter, at a cost of Rs.2890.
  3. Note books were provided at a cost of Rs.1310 to poor students who badly needed them.
  4. A submersible motor costing about Rs.2500 was presented to a poor agriculturist.
  5. Rice and provisions worth Rs.2000 were given to two poor families

Dine with devine with about hundred inmates of Anbu Nilayam, Reddiar Palayam, Pondicherry, spending Rs.1600.

13th January 2011

RO and UV water purier plant worth Rs.12000 was donated to Anbu Nilayam, Reddiar Palayam, Pondicherry in order to provide pure drinking water for its inmates who are mostly aged persons.

2nd March 2011

One pair of eye donation was made to Jothi Eye Care Foundation, Pondicherry and the club has given Rs.1000 to the deseased family.

17th April 2011

Blood donation camp was organised with the help of Indira Gandhi Government Hospital and Post Graduate Institute, Pondicherry at Holy Spirit Church, Tagore Nagar, Pondicherry.  About fifty units of blood was collected from the donors from the neighbourhood. Rs.3000 was spent in arranging the camp.

24th June 2011

As a permanent project, toilets and wash basins were provided to the children of the Government Primary School, Vennila Nagar, Pondicherry.  The club has spent Rs.45000 for this project.

3rd July 2011

New office bearers with Ln. Ramesh Babu M. as president, Ln. K. Ramesh as secretary and Ln. Tamizharasan as treasurer were installed on 3rd July for the year 2011-2012.  On the occasion the following projects were done.

  1. Rs.30000 were spent towards yearly school fees, books, uniform for the two girls adopted by the club.
  2. Rs.1500 worth of note books were distributed to poor students.
  3. Rs.500 each financial assistance was given to two poor students.
  4. Rs.2500 was spent to provide sports uniform to the students of a Govt. High School in the neighbouring village.
  5. A Siemens hearing aid worth Rs.7500 was given to a teenaged poor girl who want to do a job in desk top printing and support her family.
  6. A tricycle worth Rs.5000 was given to a polio affected young man who cannot walk so as he can move freely and make some earnings 

 

15th August 2011

Independence Day was celebrated at Bharani Kalvi Nilayam, a middle school, Kakkayanthope, Ariyankuppam, Pondicherry.  The National flag was hoisted by the club president, Lion M. Ramesh Babu. All the one hundred children were presented writing material like pen, note boois, pencil, etc. and biscuit packets.  The teachers were honoured.  At the end children of the school presented acultural show.

The same day, members of the club have pinned mini National flags to the upper garments of about 2000 persons who were passing by the market place at Ariyankuppam, Pondicherry to spread the nationalism and bring awareness about the lionism.

25th August 2011

As part of district efforts to reach the international target of one billion tree plantation to protect environment, our club planted 500 sapplings at the Government Primary Health Centre, Murungapakkam, Pondicherry.  Dr. Vijaya Bharathi, Dy. Director and Dr. M.V.R. Murthy, in-charge doctor were the guests on the occasion.  The staff at the centre and residents of the quarters came forward to take care of the plants.

26th August 2011

Mother Theresa Day was celebrated at Hona John High School, Thirukkoilur, where in physically challenged and orphan children are getting residential education upto 10th standard.  The school is recognised by the government and the students after completion of 10th are getting admission in ITI and plus one.  The club members shared the feelings of teachers and students and provided special lunch for all of them.  Later the club has helped providing some water proof material to cover for protecting their place from rain and dust.

29th August 2011

Dine with Divine:  On the occasion of the wedding day of our charter president, Lion S. Vijayakumar, the club had a programme of dine with divine at Anbu Nilayam, Reddiyar Palayam, Pondicherry.  The inmates of the Nilayam are all women and mostly neglected by their families and orphans.  A special lunch was provided to hundred odd inmates and staff of the Nilayam on the occasion.

1st July 2012

Installation function of new officers for the year 2012-2013 was held at 7pm on 1st July 2012 at Andhra Maha Sabha, Pondicherry.  Lion K. Paulraj as president, Lion T. Bhaskaran as secretary and Lion S. Prabhakaran as treasurer of the lions club of Pondicherry Light House were installed by PMJF Lion V. Rathinasabapathy, Past Multiple Council Chairman in the presence of MJF Lion M. Thanigachalam, Past Multiple Council Vice-chairman.  Lion M. Agarchand, District Chairperson, inaugurated the service projects while MJF Lion R. Mouraly, GLT Leader, inducted the new members to lionism.  Lioness D.C. Lion Ms. Geetha Kamalakannan and Leo D.C. Lion Arivouli, P.R.O. Lion Kamalkishore Jain, Region Chairperson, Lion Murugappa, Zone Chairperson, Lion S. Siva were the other dignitaries on the stage. During the occasion, the following service projects were done:

  1. Rs.40000/- educational assistance for two young sisters, daughter of Ms. Gowri, adopted by the club for their life long education, given in the form of yearly school fees, books, uniform etc.  This is the fourth year.
  2. In order to encourage sports, a sum of Rs.10000/- was presented to Ms. Suganthi, a power lifter, in support of her participation in world competitions.
  3. Rs. 3000/- was spent for educational assistance and notebooks for poor students.
  4. Rs. 3000/- was spent for distribution of bed sheets and rice for poor people.

15th August 2012

Paulraj followed by National Anthem in chorus.  Ln. Paulraj and Ln. Vijayakumar spoke on the occasion.  Lions S. Ranga Rao, K. Ramesh, M. Rajendiran, V. Natarajan, D. Balasundar and E. Dhandapani participated in the celebrations along with the teachers and students.  Students of the school presented cultural events for about an hour following which all the teachers were honoured and the students were presented with notebooks, pens, pencils and biscuit packets.

26th August 2012

Mother Theressa Day was celebrated at Baby Sarah Home, Kakkayanthope, Pondicherry on 26th August 2012. About eighty five challenged and destitute children of age groups are living in the home.  All of them were served with a special lunch on the occasion. Lions K. Paulraj, S. Prabhakaran, T. Kalaiselvi, M. Tamizharasan, K. Ramesh, G. Sreenivasulu, S. Ranga Rao, S. Vijayakumar,  V. Natarajan, D. Balasundar, K. Noble and E. Dhandapani participated in the celebration.

5th September 2012

Teachers Day was celebrated at the Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Koodapakkam, Pondicherry at 3pm on 5th September 2012.  The school was selected because of the cent per cent results in tenth and plus two examinations of 2012. Vice-Principal welcomed the gathering and Lion K. Paulraj gave his presidential speech.  PMJF Lion Prof. S. Ranga Rao and Lion S. Vijayakumar addressed the staff and students suitably for the occasion. Lions G. Sreenivasulu, S. Prabhakaran, K. Ramesh, D. Balasundar, M. Rajendiran participated and made the function a grand success.  About 35 teachers were honoured and presented with a certificate and memento while 10 ministerial staff were also honoured and presented a memento.  Students have presented a vibrant dance with rethym, an excellent folk art event.

6th September 2012

A blood donation camp was organized at Ranga Bhoopathi B.Ed College, Sathyamangalam, Tamilnadu with the support of the medical staff of Tindivanam.  Dr. Venkateswarlu, Principal of the college inaugurated the camp at 10am on 6th September 2012.  Only boys have donated blood.  Totally 32 units of blood was donated to the Blood Bank, Tindivanam.  Lions K. Paulraj, T. Bhaskaran, S. Prabhakaran, S. Vijayakumar, D. Balasundar, G. Sreenivasulu and S. Ranga Rao took active part in the camp.

21st September 2012

The first Zone Advisory Meeting of Zone III of Region I consisting of Lions clubs of Pondicherry Excellence, Pondicherry Light House and Pondicherry Samaritan was held at 8pm on 21st September 2012 at Andhra Maha Sabha, Pondicherry.  President, Secretary and Treasurer of the above clubs and some vice-presidents and District Chairpersons of these clubs have also attended the meeting.  Lion K. Paulraj, president of the host club, Pondicherry Light Hose, welcomed all the members and honoured them after which the proceedings were taken over by the Zone Chairperson, Ln. S. Siva.
