Strengthen Your Commitment to Children - Host a Symposium!

Is your club involved with a dynamic children’s project that other clubs in your district or multiple district could replicate? Would you like to expand local efforts to assist vulnerable children in the areas of literacy, health, hunger or education? Consider hosting a Lions Services for Children Symposium! The coordination of a day-long symposium allows Lions to exchange ideas, collaborate with community leaders, expand or develop new meaningful service and strengthen their commitment to serving disadvantaged children. Limited funding opportunities are available to help you with symposium expenses! Applications for 2015-2016 will be accepted starting July 1, 2015.

Is Your Club Ready for Children’s Dignity Week?

White Cane Week – Celebrate the Symbol of Independence
The white cane is a mobility tool symbolizing the ability of a blind or visually impaired person to live an independent life and fully participate in society. Promote the importance of the white cane during White Cane Week, May 11-17. Provide greater awareness by distributing the new white cane tags available from the Lions Store. Work with your local school administration to invite a person who is blind to visit the school and demonstrate the use of the white cane and its benefits.  Or, plan a community event to convey your community’s white cane laws to the public. Remember to report your White Cane activity in the MyLCI/Service Activity Report.
Lions and Little League: The Untold Storycover-2015-05.jpg

RAP and Environmental Awareness

Lions around the world are addressing children’s literacy needs through the Reading Action Program.  Take your RAP volunteer work outside by organizing events related to April’s theme of environmental awareness. Consider organizing a book-swap or nature themed story time at your local library or community center. Sponsor a family reading room with books about local wildlife and plants at a nearby nature preserve. Host a nature themed poetry competition for youth. However you serve, don’t forget to report your activity on MyLCI! Happy reading!

Lions Recycle for Sight Month in May
