The Reality Tour® is a program every child NEEDS to attend.

If you could purchase insurance to protect your child against the risk of drug and alcohol abuse, would you? Parents – you can increase the substance abuse protection factor for your child IF you have ongoing discussions about drugs and alcohol.

In an ongoing effort to address the drug abuse issues in our area, the Norwin Lion’s Club is the sponsoring organization to staff a local site to host the popular parent/child Reality Tour Drug Prevention Program. Our tour is held on the second Tuesday of the month (with the exception of June, July and August) at JB’s Bright Beginnings in North Huntingdon. The Norwin Reality Tour is completely run by volunteers. . If you are interested in attending the program please contact Gina Davis at ginadavis.rt@gmail.com.

The award winning Reality Tour takes parents and their children age 10 and up, for a ‘walk in the life’ of a teen addict to show the harm that could come from experimenting with drugs and alcohol.  The powerful consequence segment features brief dramatic scenes narrated by the ‘teen addict’ and are followed by training on skills that families can implement to prevent substance abuse.  First person accounts by law enforcement and persons in recovery wrap up the evening program.

             NORWIN KITTY SACKS PROGRAM

How would you feel if for 3 days every week you had nothing to eat?  Do you think you would be able to do your job if your head was pounding and your stomach was in knots because of your hunger?

This unfortunately is what many children in our community face every Monday morning.  When they leave school on Friday, their last healthy meal was their lunch.  From then until Monday when they return to school to wait patiently for lunch again, they will have had nothing to eat.

The Norwin Lions Club is actively working to help these children by providing backpacks (Kitty Sacks) filled with kid-friendly, healthy food for the weekend.  We have partnered with a local business to have fresh fruit, cereal, crackers and meals that children can prepare themselves without using the stove.  These foods will feed each child during the weekend.

At present we serve three elementary schools and the intermediate school in the Norwin School District.  We are currently feeding 45 children through our program.  The potential exists for including as many as 200 students in our project.
