OUR HISTORY

The North East Lions Club Inc. was founded March 1947, chartered April 14, 1947, and incorporated March 1948. The Host club was Rising Sun.

In 2000, the Upper North East Lions Club merged with our club. They have enabled our club to grow and through their membership, and have helped us to accomplish many goals.

The North East Lions Club continues to serve the community as it has done since 1947.  Membership has changed, projects and fund raisers have changed over the years, but our goal still is "We Serve". Check out our Projects Page to see what we are doing.

In the 2008-2009 year, we received the District 22B Five Star and Governor's Exceptional Club Award.

We are proud to say we have nine Melvin Jones recipients since 1990.  They are: Lions Bob Gochnear (1990), Robert Benjamin, Sr. (1995), Dean Rice (1996), Keijo Karppinen (1997), Brian Clare (1997), Bob Madgeberger (2000), Janet (Sis) Hammer (2002, Robert Benjamin III (2004), Bill Dallas (2007) Glenn Davis (2008), Henry Hammer (2008), and John McMaster (2009), John Futty (2016)

Our Life Members are:  Lions Janet (Sis) Hammer, Henry Hammer, Dean Rice, and Larry Wiggins.

In 2012 Lion Scott Vivian was awarded the Darley Traverse award.

In March 2016, the North East Lions Club and Cecil College formed an agreement to provide a yearly scholarship for a student graduating from North East High School seeking a Cecil College Associate Degree.  The Leon DeMond scholarship supports the student $1000 per year for two consecutive years

In 2013, Lion President, Michelle Manfredi, and Treasurer Kevin Dill met with Cecil College Foundation President, Mary Moore to present a check to the college.  Yearly, net earnings from the core amount will provide scholarship.
