The North Tazewell Lions was chartered in October 1957, sponsored by the Tazewell Lions Club.
In the early 60's the club members wanted to help the community out in giving them something that was needed to entertain families. Land was purchased and several of the members made personal loans to build and operate a private swimming pool. The club elected pool officers each year and ran the pool until it was paid off in 1972 and a mortgage burning was held, then the club turned the property over to be called the Greater Tazewell Recreation Department. Not to let it get out totally from under them, a clause was put in that if the Greater Tazewell Recreation ceased to maintain their corporate state dues, then the property would go back to the North Tazewell Lions Club, that being done, in the late 80's report was made that The Greater Tazewell Recreation Dept did not keep their Corporate dues currant and the property was about to be claimed by someone else, Lawyers helped the club in obtaining the property back and the club ran the pool again until it was sold in the late 90's
Club met for years at the North Tazewell Methodist Church then moving to the American Legion Building for a great number of years, then moving to the Acme meeting room and after much work in getting back the Greater Recreation Pool, built their own meeting room.
After selling the property of the Pool, the club is now back at the American Legion Building in the town of Tazewell
The club has had a long history of being involved in the local community, the state level and the International level.
North Tazewell Lions have sponsored 5 District Governors in the 61 years of their existence

North Tazewell Lions have been known for special services as providing wood for needy people for winter use. Giving Christmas baskets at Christmas to families in need. Providing an air mattress for years to a person in need to help with comfort, and the list goes on
