Our History

New Holstein Lions Club was Chartered in April 1970 with 36 members by the Winnebago East Shore Lions Club.  There are 5 charter members still active in the club. They are Alan Depies,John Hemauer, Larry Muldoon, Don Spletter and Wayne Zwart.

At that time, the meeting nights were established, and are still maintained today as the first Thursday of the month as the Dinner meeting, and the third Thursday of the month as the Board of Directors or business meeting.

Since 1970, the New Holstein Lions Club has donated over $200,000.00 and supported many projects both within the New Holstein area, the State Lions of Wisconsin and the International Lions projects.

Locally some of the many projects were the City Lions Park and Play area, Welker Shelter at City Park, Veteran’s Memorial Park, and host for the annual CP Telethon.

Proceeds from past fundraising events have also gone locally to: Gift Certificates for Senior Center, New Holstein Boy Scouts, New Holstein Community Chest, New Holstein Fire Department, New Holstein First Responders, New Holstein High School Scholarships each year and many other local projects as they come before the Board

State contributions to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation, which supports The Wisconsin Lions Camp for the handicapped and blind at Rosholt. The Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin   (LEBW) in   Madison of which some of the New Holstein Lions provide transportation 24 hours a day when requested.

The Eyeglass Recycling Center, the Lions Hearing Aid project, Diabetes Education and Research, Children’s Vision and Youth Projects are also projects the New Holstein Lions financially support.
