District Projects:

The Minden City Lions Club supports the projects of our
Lions District, 11-D2.
These projects include:

  • The Michigan Lions All State Band,
  • Bear Lake Camp (a camp for Visually Impaired Youth located here in Michigan),
  • Michigan Eye Bank,
  • Leader Dog for the Blind
  • LCIF (Lions Club International Fund), and others.  The Lions Club International Fund provides disaster relief all over the world.

Local Projects:

  • Locally we provide help in purchasing eyeglasses, and hearing aids for people in need.
  • We provide support for the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts.
  • We collect and recycle eyeglasses, hearing aids, and electric razors.
  • Our picnic table project began back in the 70’s when we first met and built 20 tables in 2 nights.  These tables were placed in the Village Park.  As the tables aged and needed to be replaced, we began meeting annually to build more tables.  Since then, we meet every May and build 3 or 4 tables a year.
  • We help maintain the equipment in the village park.  Over the years, we have built 2 picnic pavilions. We have built an elevated announcing booth which is used during softball games and tournaments, and the tractor pull.  We have built the tennis court/basketball court. We have put up fence around the softball field and upgraded the lighting on the diamond.  We have planted trees in the park.  We have purchased Christmas decorations, which line the Main Street during the Christmas Season.  I will be adding to this list of projects as memory serves.
  • We have medical equipment available for loan. The equipment includes wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, hospital beds, and other miscellaneous items.
  • One of our special projects at Christmas time is distributing Fruit Baskets to the homes of the elderly in our area.
  • A major fundraiser for us is the annual Tractor Pull.  The club sponsors the activity and works in conjunction with the Minden City Fire Department to put on the event. This Event not only provides needed funds for our projects, and equipment for the fire department, but is a Wonderful Community Affair, providing entertainment, and bringing the whole area together for a much needed summer time break.
