One of our most recent projects was to aid in the purchase of an iPad to assist two students at Annapolis East Elementary School.  The iPad will give these students an opportunity to access pre-loaded learning apps in reading, phonics, and writing.

The request was forwarded to us by the children's Grade 2 - 3 teacher, who stressed in her letter, the importance of  promoting literacy as early as possible in a student's life.

The ability to read and write is fundamental to achieving at school and impacts a child's ability to succeed later in life. Statistics show that if a student is not a proficient reader by the end of grade three, there is a 78% chance he or she will not have the ability to catch up in this area.

In keeping with the mandate of the Lions International Conference "Year of Literacy" we were pleased to support this worthy request.
