Some of the Projects we do as a Club to service our community...

One of our most vaulable projects is our COMMUNITY CENTER:  Our club operates and manages the Melcher-Dallas Community Center.  We do this strictly on donations and rentals from the building.  We receive no help from the city, state or federal agencies.  We are very proud to be able to provide this service to our community.

We have been working hard these past few years doing major updates to the Community Center.

A new metal roof has been put on, thank you to Chris & Jeremy Mann.  The place has a fresh coat of paint and redecorated thanks to  Madonna Kadera and the kitchen has been remodeled, thanks to the efforts of members and friends.  The new counter tops are hand made by Bob Worrick, and are  BEAUTIFUL!  Things are looking nice, and we're not done yet...  A new hand washin sink in the kitchen has been installed. And recently new Front Entry doors have been put in, giving the front of the building a whole NEW LOOK!  We have plans to change the inside entry doors as well.

A new larger Lion's Den (office) / Board Room has been constructed and serves our business needs very well.

Annualy we do an EASTER EGG HUNT in the city park for  Pre school through 6th grade at Easter time.

We are collecting used ink jet cartidges and used eye glasses.  Donate your ink jet cartidges or glasses to us.  Drop them off at the M-D Community Center, Marion County Bank (Melcher Office) or give to any MD Lions Club member.

HELPING OTHERS:  We help members in our community and surrounding area with the needs for Eye classes, medical needs, and more.  If you need assistance please contact us.  Assistance is given on a per case bases and on funds available.  We can't always help everyone or all the time, but we do our best when we can.

We also help our community and neighboring communities by doing "Iowa Kids Sight" a Lions program to help detect early eye problems in young children (pre-school age).

At our Community's annual "Coal Miners Day" celebration, we have a Bingo Stand and concessions in the city park, and we do Bingo  once a month (on the first Saturday) help support our building and our community.

We are proud to be the Sponsor for  Melcher-Dallas Dollar for Scholors.  Melchr-Dallas Dollars for Scholors is in it's 17th year (started in 2006) and we've awarded over 150 scholarships totaling over $163,000.  M-D Lions  through Melcher-Dallas Dollars for Scholors, awards 3 - $500 scholorships each year to our high school graduates.  This was made possible throught the generous gift of investment from one of our founding members; Mr. Henry Becker, whom we miss very much!

Our Club does many more service and community projects.  We are proud to be LIONS and together, WE SERVE!
