EARTH DAY 2017!!!

On Saturday April 22nd from 9:00 AM until noon the Mebourne Lions club is hosting its fifth annual “Earth Day” for all kids, big and little, service clubs, church groups, seniors, and just any one that wants to help.

This is your invitation to come out and help clean up our village and down each main road for a short distance. We will be meeting at the Lions Den in the Ag Building. Garbage bags and other equipment needed will be supplied. At noon free hot dogs, pop and chips will be provided.

We hope you can come out and help us celebrate this event; and help to keep our planet clean and healthy for all to enjoy. For further information please contact any Melbourne Lions Club member.

We will also be accepting electronic equipment and batteries for recycling at the Lions den (Melbourne AG Hall) from 9:00AM until 12:00 noon. Please call 519-319-0881 for pickup if you are unable to deliver.  Also this year we are also accepting any and all used and unwanted eye glasses that we will send on to other countries that can use them.

PS: High School students will earn community service credit .

PSS: Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult

March 28th - Dinner Meeting

The Melbourne and District Lions Club held their dinner meeting on Tuesday March 28th.  They welcomed  District A1 Region 24 Chair Barb Tuxford and some of the Ailsa Craig Lion members. Lion Barb brought greetings, and promoted the use of social media to get the many things that Lion Clubs support and promote through out their busy year. She shared that Canada has had Lions Club presence for 100 years strong.  

The club meeting discussed a few of the many events and activities they support, like Earth Day April 22nd , The Melbourne and District Lions  are organizing litter pickup for Melbourne area as well as accepting electronic devices electronic batteries for recycling as usual at the storage bin by the Legion.  As a thank you to all those helping a lite lunch will be provided.  

Another event they will be supporting is the Walk for Dog Guides which is a national fundraising walk held  on May 28th in Strathroy.  More than 200 communities across Canada will help raise funds to help train Dog Guides for Canadians with visual, hearing, medical or physical disabilities. Each Walk is organized by local volunteers with support from Lions Foundation of Canada. To date, the Walk has raised more than $13 million! Communities host Walks in the Spring and Fall.  Lion Vern Hathaway is accepting pledges on the website support page and will attend with his dog Booster.
