LIONS WHITE CANE DAY FUNDRAISER 2015

The Lions worldwide signature project has been sight conservation since Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness” in 1925.  White Cane Day has been a major fundraiser for Lions Clubs since 1951 and the McKinleyville Lions Club members have made this an annual event since being chartered in 1962. The 2015 event was held on October 2, 3 and 4 with tables set up at Kmart, Ray's Food Place and Safeway in McKinleyville.

Eight McKinleyville Lions, one Trinidad Lion and one Student Lion volunteered a total of 150 hours during the three day event.

The McKinleyville Lions Club would like to thank the many individuals who made donations during the event as well as local businesses: Coast Central Credit Union, Wright Management Services, MacMullin & Company, JLF Construction, Jackson & Eklund, J. William Ambrosini, CPA, and Hooven & Company for their contributions during the donate by mail campaign. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Big KMart, Ray’s Food Place and Safeway in McKinleyville for their continued support of our “White Cane Day” fundraiser.

A total of 50 pairs of glasses were collected during the event.

Lion Bob Wainwright has been helping with this event for 47 years.

Lion Marie Ruth was visited by Spirit, a Guide Dog Puppy in Training. Puppy raiser, Kim Hayler, works on the socialization aspect of his training.

Prosper, a retired breeder from Guide Dogs for the Blind, was also on hand with Lion Mark Nichols.
