Welcome

The Mattoon Lions have proudly served their community since chartered in 1946.  Being a Lion is fun.  Not only do we have fun socializing at our meetings but the real enjoyment is seeing the smile of a first-time vision or hearing impaired camper or seeing the joy of a low vision student getting the tools needed to make learning easier and daily activities more normal.

Many know that Lions are dedicated to helping those with vision problems.  The Mattoon Lions recycle over 1500 pairs of glasses annually and help dozens of needy families buy glasses.  We provide funds to support mobile diabetic eye care and hearing screening.  We collect used hearing aids.  We provide funding to support Lions camps and the low vision centers so all the tools provided are free. But that is just the beginning...

The Mattoon Lions are part of Lions Clubs International which is the largest service club organization in the world with over 1.3 million members in over 200 countries throughout the world.  Together, we provide disaster relief, eradicate blindness, help the environment and provide education.  The projects are too numerous to even list but might include providing clean drinking water to a village or eye surgery in countries where the average wage is very low.  We invite you to view the attached videos under International News to the right to get  a wider perspective.  The Mattoon Lions support these activities while providing funding for the local food bank through our Sweet Corn sales project.  The Mattoon Lions have also been active with Peace Meals, Highway Clean-up and the Santa visits to name a few.  Please check our Calendar and Club Project pages for what we are doing now.

The Mattoon Lions Club is fully self-supported.  All money raised from public donations and profits from fundraising activities is given back to the public.  The Lions take care of club expenses through club dues and personal funds.

Have you always wanted to be part of a group that helped others?  We provide leadership and organizational experiences while having fun helping others.  If you or someone you know would like to be involved with an upcoming project or join the Lions Club, email one of the officers for more information and an application.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
