Our story

The Lions Club of Marion City chartered on 24 July 2020 and is based in the Marion City Council area of Adelaide.

The principle focus of the Club is to assist with Hunger Relief, Homelessness and Health.

The Lions Club of Marion City is part of Lions Club International which was established in 1917 in Chicago, USA. It is the largest service organisation in the world. As a service club, it enables us to serve our community in a range of different areas.

Marion City Lions Club started with only five members in January 2020 and despite the lockdown, challenges of COVID-19 and having to meet via Zoom, numbers grew very quickly to 22 by August 2020 when they officially chartered as a club.  Founding President Judy Glastonbury acknowledges it’s the passion and enthusiasm of our members to serve the community which has seen the club flourish with almost 45 members in 2023.

The key areas which the club supports are projects involving “Health, Hunger and Homelessness”. The main project involves a team of talented ladies who create Sensory Fiddle Mats for the Flinders Medical Centre Emergency Department. Other members are involved in volunteering at Blackwood Bargain Centre, Bramwell House and putting together care packs for the homeless.

To be able to support these projects, the club fundraises with Bunnings BBQs, Quiz and Bingo Nights and the next big event for the club is a cabaret in May 2023.

Marion City Lions Club is always looking for new members so if you have a passion for sewing, lending a hand at the BBQs and the Blackwood Bargain Centre, or simply enjoying fellowship and community spirit, you can go along to meet a great group of people at a club meeting held on the third Wednesday of each month at 11:30 am in the Club Marion, 262 Sturt Road, Marion or contact President, Judy Glastonbury at marioncitylions@gmail.com for any further information.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
