Manhattan Lions Club 2014 Scholarship Requirements

The Manhattan Lions Club is offering two $1,000 general scholarships to deserving high school seniors.  Applicants must be a resident of Manhattan Township and have a mailing address with a Manhattan zip code.  

Scholarship Requirements:

Must write a letter of application to the Manhattan Lions Club, which includes the following information:

  • Contact Information - Address, Phone Number, E-Mail
  • Official Transcript that includes Grade Point Average and Class Rank
  • School Activities, Awards, Community Involvement, and Volunteer Service
  • College or university you plan to attend, with a selected field of major endeavor
  • Personal Biography Statement - Please include your educational and career goals
  • Two Letters of Recommendation 

The completed application, including letters of recommendation must be submitted to your school counselor or PPS department no later than Wednesday, May 7 to be considered by the selection committee.  Lions Club officials will notify the winners shortly thereafter. 

 

What We Do:

  • Collect used eyeglasses at the Manhattan Post Office; Stone City VFW; both branches of the First Bank of Manhattan; Anna McDonald School; Absolute Vision Care, and at Advance Eye Care in New Lenox.
  • Fund a $1,000.00 college scholarship for a local High School senior.
  • Support the Manhattan Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts; the Manhattan Public Library; the Manhattan Neighborhood Food Pantry; Operation Care Package; French Youth Exchange; Manhattan Fun Days; Deicke Eye Care and Scholastic Achievement Awards.
  • Sponsor the Lions Hearing Van; Candy Days; an annual blood drive; Leader Dogs for the Blind; the Manteno Veterans Home, and we provide eye exams for those in need.
  • Provide a service to the village by posting your events on The Manhattan Lions Community Bulletin Board. To have an event posted, stop in at the Manhattan Village Hall and submit a request form for your event.
