LIONS CLUB OF MUNALI CLUB HISTORY

The Lions Club of Munali was formed from former Leos from University of Zambia (Unza), Evelyn Hone College and School of Nursing at University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

The Meetings started in 1989 under the guidance of the Late Lion Jack Bones of Lions Club of Kabulonga.

CHARTER

The club was chartered on the 2nd of February, 1990, and was sponsored by the Lions Club of Kabulonga.

CLUB PROJECTS

The Club has since its charter carried out numerous projects including:

  1. Initiation of the Construction of a dormitory at the Garden Drop in Center and the adoption and sponsorship of two street kids,  one of whom has since graduated from the University of Zambia.
  2. Provided various forms of support to Bethel Orphanage including the donation of 103 mosquito nets in conjunction with Malaria Control Center.
  3. Donation of K7 million (unrebased Currency) to Kenneth Kaunda Children Foundation.
  4. Sponsorship of  nine year old, James Miti, who was suffering from Bilateral Keratocornus for eye surgery to India at a total cost of over USD10, 000.The boy has since made tremendous recovery and is now able to see and appreciate the different colors.
  5. Refurbishment of a 40ft container and setting up a School Library with a reading area at Kamanga Community School in conjunction with IHS Zambia Limited at a cost of K135,000 in 2015.
  6. Setting up of a Computer Lab with 15 PCs at Kamanga Community School at a cost of K70,000 in 2016
  7. Refurbishment of ablution facilities and donation of food stuff to Hidden Voices, a school for children with Hearing and Speech Impairments in Garden Compound in 2016
  8. The club has a long standing project at Kalingalinga Clinic since 1995 where various projects are held every year including:
  •  Donation of medicines, medical equipment, detergents and other cleaning agents
  • Annual Medical Camp where free medical services are provided such as Diabetes screeing, Eye sight, Malaria and Blood pressure
  • Donation of baby hampers to newly born babies on Christmas day and
  • The rehabilitation of the Maternity Ward.

  1. Career Talk at Munali Secondary School on the 12th October, 2017 to encourage pupils to take up Veterinary and Computer Sciences.
  2. Donation  of ten (10) Brand new computers worth K70, 000 to Chilenje B Primary School on 16th February, 2018 in conjunction with Huawei and Smart Zambia.
  3. A part sponsorship of K5,000 for Misozi Phiri, a female student at Natural Resources Development College (NRDC) and another Grade 8 girl child at  Libala Basic School.
  4. The Club is still working on reviving the Leo Club of Munali which the club had sponsored in the past years.

FUNDRAISERS

The Club has had a number of very successful fundraising ventures and some of them in conjunction with the corporate world, including;

  1. Golf Tournament with Maureen Mwanawas Community Initiative – raised over K100 Million (unrebased) (USD25, 000)
  2. Tennis Tournament at Lusaka Tennis club – raised over K5, 000.00
  3. Corporate walk in partnership with  Holiday Inn Hotel –raised over K35 Million (USD9, 000)
  4. A fundraising dinner dance was held in November, 2015 and over K33,000 was raised.
  5. The  Club holds live musical events on Fridays dubbed ‘ Sandauni’ featuring prominent music artists such as  Pontiano Kaiche and Chichi –

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVERS

  1. Lion Ernest Mulube – Charter President.
  2. Lion Luambe Mondoloka – First District Governor from the club.
  3. Lion Mike Inambao, MJF Past District Governor and served twice as Club President.
  4. Lion George Banda (Dr) – Guiding Lion for the Club’s sponsored club, Lions Club of Longacres and consistent member of the Club. Currently serving as District Governor 2018-2019.
  5. Lion Evans Kachusha – Was Club President when the club inducted over 14 Lions in one Lionistic year.
  6. Lion Chongo Mfwika – Membership growth and retention award.
  7. Lion Thula Nyirongo, Lion Richard Kangwa, Lion Christopher Bwalya, Lion Victor Njovu and Lion Mwaba Kasese – High value Fundraiser.
  8. Lion Patrick Bulundo, Mjf – First District Cabinet Secretary and twice the All Africa Conference Secretary from the Club. He was awarded Outstanding Leadership Award by the International President in February, 2010, .
  9. Lion Charles Nkandu – First Zone Chairperson from the Club.
  10. Lion Mwaba Kasese –
  • First female District Cabinet Secretary from the Club.
  • Served two consecutive terms as Cabinet Secretary after serving two terms as DCC – IT. Currently serving as Vice Cabinet Treasurer 2018-19
  • Club Excellence Award given to the Club during her year as President.
