The "International Association of Lions Clubs", also known as "Lions Clubs International", is not a fraternal organization. It is the largest community service organization in the world! Lions are an international network of 1.35 million men and women in more than 46,000 clubs in more than 207 countries and geographic areas who work together regardless of race, religion, gender or language. All Lions are dedicated to helping those in need. Simply stated..."WE SERVE".

Laveen Lions set aside last Tuesday evening to sign 965 Christmas cards to send to our troops in Afganistan. Our goal is to send 1,000 Christmas cards to our troops.
Lion Sharon was the Chairperson for Christmas Cards for the Troops activity. She says,  "thank you everyone for helping."
Vision & Hearing Screening In Laveen
The Laveen Lions Club Vision & Hearing Screening program is Chaired by PDG Les Daviet, II. For the period August 01, 2013 to December 31, 2013 the Vision & Hearing Screening Team has visited 10 elementary & charter schools and provided vision and hearing screening services to 2,552 kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th and special needs students. A total of 76 Lions and 40 volunteers have volunteered 780 hours of humanitarian vision and hearing community service. The following photos are some of the vision & hearing screening Lions team members at some of the schools.
Christmas Basket Program
Each year the Laveen Lions Club adopts families and senior citizens in the community to present them with food and Christmas gifts. This year the program was Chaired by Lion Sharon Anderson. The Club adopted 35 families plus 6 senior citizens. Food items were collected from 7 area schools. Items that exceeded our need for the families we adopted were donated: 357 pounds to 2 local churches and 2,258 pounds to a local food bank. The families received a ham (a donation from the Laveen Baptist Church), potatoes, onions, box of canned food and a box of packaged non-perishables. The children received Christmas gifts. This year we had 12 Lions and 20 non-Lions help with food collection from the schools, sorting and boxing the food, wrapping the gifts, loading the trucks for delivery and deliverying everything to the adopted families. We all had a great time making those deliveries in the sprinkling rain.
Thank you District Governor Gary White for helping the Laveen Lions Club to collect food from the schools.
The Lions Club took over Lion Harold Baldwin's garage to sort and box the food items for delivery.
Lion Sharon Anderson gives some last minute instructions before the trucks are loaded.
Trucks are loaded with food items and Christmas gifts.
Lots of help was needed to get all of the trucks loaded on time for delivery to the waiting adopted families and senior citizens.
On December 15, all of the trucks are loaded and ready for delivery. It was a little cold on this day and sprinkling rain, but the Lions got the job done anyway! GO LIONS!
