Brief History

LA UNION (LD) LIONS CLUB

Time was when during its infancy, wives and female relatives of Lion members were recruited as Lions Auxiliary Members to assist Lions in the pursuit of rendering humanitarian services to underprivileged, recognizing the beneficial effects of their contribution, LCI institutionalized the organization of Lioness Clubs worldwide.  Thus, evolved the La Union Lioness Club, whose involvement in community services extended with even greater commitment and dedication.

In the year 1992, in its vision and mission to serve even more on a worldwide scale, LCI elevated the Lioness Club status to be on level with regular Lions Club, and resolved that from then on Lioness Clubs ceased to exist, and all members who used to be Lionesses were encouraged to transform their club to be LIONS CLUBS.

Due to this development, their District Governor Mariano M. Chan and Council Chairman/Past District Governor Victor B.H. Dy worked feverishly for the conversion of La Union Lioness Club into a Lions Club, with Charter members to be called from the defunct Lioness Club and to be cherished “La Union Lady Lions Club”.

Application for a charter was then made on the name of La Union Lady Lions Club, the first all female Lions Club in LCI District 301-C.  When application was presented, LCI is not in conformity with LADY LION sobriquet, as it connotes exclusively for the female gender.  The new policy for membership was no distinction between genders-Clubs can either be all male, all female or mixed genders.

To solve this impasse Council Chairman/Past District Governor Victor B. H. Dy imposed his brilliant idea of replacing “LADY” with “LD” which when read sounds almost the same, as a compromise LCI concerned.  And so it came to pass that the official name of this club is:

LA UNION (LD) LIONS CLUB

Chartered March 10, 1992

Charter Club Officers elected were

LION ANITA DY SY - President

LION CORAZON CHAN LIM - Secretary

LION EILEEN L. CHAN - Treasurer

From the time it was chartered up to the present time, the club, bannered by its dedicated Officers and members, is a consistent recipient of outstanding services awards from LCI District 301-C, and its presidents presented with 100% President Award from LCI.  For all its achievement, members stand proud and heads up to be affiliated with this multi-awarded club.
