WHO WE ARE
The Lions Club of Land O’Lakes is based in Northbrook, Ontario. Our 71 members work hard to serve and support our local community in a variety of ways. Through donations and fund-raising we are able to provide financial assistance to several local organizations including Land O’Lakes Community Services, North Addington Education Centre, Pine Meadow Nursing Home, Land O’Lakes Community Food Bank, Camp Trillium (Childhood Cancer Support Centre), Lions Camp Dorset (resort for dialysis patients and their families), Lennox & Addington Resources for Children (LARC) and the Mazinaw Lake Swim Program. OUR PAST YEAR
The past 12 months have been an exciting time for the Lions Club of Land O’Lakes. In addition to supporting and serving the community with events and financial assistance that we provide each year, in August 2023 we launched the Emergency Shelter Capital Campaign. After the devastating derecho in May of 2022, our Lions decided that we wanted to be prepared if this kind of emergency happens again. This campaign has a goal of $200,000 to make much needed renovations to the hall's kitchen, accessible washroom and adding a generator so that we can serve the community in the event of a declared emergency. We have had fantastic support from the community, and Lions of District A3, Sharbot Lake & District and Denbigh-Griffith, and are nearly halfway there.
In May 2024, we celebrated our 55th Charter Anniversary, serving this community with dedication and kindness. We have added fun events like our Annual Dog Guide Walk, Music and Friends, Halloween Haunted Halls, Santa's Workshop, and a Ribfest happening in August this year as some examples. We built raised garden beds for Pine Meadows Nursing Home for Earth Day and partnered with the Land O'Lakes Garden Club for community cleanup. Another great partnership is with the Cloyne and District Historical Society for our Speakers' Forum series that brings in talented speakers from all over from April to September.
Most of the seasons and celebrations are represented on the fence surrounding our hall. Lions members cut out figures, painted and decorated the fence during Covid. It brought a smiles to those who passed by and continues to do so. We add to it regularly. Recently, the grade school students painted cut-out dogs to decorate the fence for our Dog Guide Walk. Truly a heart-warming partnership.
We have just celebrated Canada Day 2024 with the creation of a Human Maple Leaf to celebrate the Canadian Flag. About 200 people helped to fill our flag. It was a beautiful way to celebrate this great country of ours. We are proud to be Canadian and proud to be Lions.
