Lions Chinese Auction
Feb 3, 2019

Eisenhower Rec Center

We had a great crowd of over 200 people who attended our fourth Chinese Auction on Feb 3, 2019 at the Eisenhower Rec Center.  Attendees bought raffle tickets for over 70 gift baskets ranging in value from $50 to over $100, as well as tickets for 50/50 drawings.  Lions served a meal of grilled hamburgers, chips, cookies and soda.  The proceeds benefit the vision programs of the Lake Sumter Lions Club, to include our expanding Kidsight program.  A very successful fundraiser.  Thanks goes to Chairs Lion John and Lion Doris and their committee.

Collecting & Recycling Aluminum Cans

At least 3 days a week, Lake Sumter Lions collect the aluminum cans in large black bags and load them on the Lions truck. Collection barrels are located at postal stations north of Route 466 in The Villages.  Once the Lions truck is full, Lions drive the truck to a nearby recycling center. This project not only raises funds for Lions activities but also keeps our community "green" by collecting and recycling aluminum cans.  Thanks goes to Lion Kevin who is the Chairman of this fundraiser.  And thanks to those who deposit their empty cans in the red collection barrels.

Alum Can Chairman Kevin sent a call out for members to repair the wooden cab on the truck.  Several Lions showed up and repairs were done (with some monkeying around!) at the home of Lions Gary and Sharon.  Lunch was provided afterwards by Lion Sharon and Gary.

Lions ReSell-It Day

Upcoming:  March 22, 2019

Rohan Rec Center

Lake Sumter Lions held their third annual Re-Sell It Day on Saturday, March 24 at the Lake Miona Rec Center.  There was a line of people waiting to get in at 8am to buy the many pre-owned items.  Buyers could choose such items as jewelry, books, crafts, linens,  garden tools, and readers eyeglasses.  Thanks goes to Chairman Lion John as the ReSell-It Day was a very successful fundraiser.

2018-2019 White Cane Days

Lake Sumter Lions feel fortunate to live in a community that is so generous to the Lions.  The Club conducted White Cane Days at Wal-Mart and four Publix grocery stores located in/around The Villages in September and October 2018.  Members collected $$ from the public, most of who knew about the good works of Lions.  Lions were assisted by trainers for Southeastern Guide Dog (SEGD) with their Puppies-in-Training.  All monies collected go to the Club's sight and diabetes testing programs, to include the Southeastern Guide Dogs organization. Thanks goes to Chairman Lion Bob who organized these fundraisers.
