Lake Lure Lions Club
The beauty of the mountains and the glistening of the sun on the lake don't remove the need that exists in our area. Our Club is within District 31L as of July 1, 2015. Check out the District website for the District Newsletter, The Dispatch. We serve in the Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and surrounding Hickory Nut Gorge region in western Rutherford County, North Carolina.
The Lake Lure Lions Club was chartered on March 26, 1979. As of June 30, 2016 we have 41 members. We are committed to excellence in our planning and delivery of services to people with visual impairments, blindness, deafness and those in serious economic need. We enlarge high-school textbooks for one of our local visually impaired students, supply glasses for those who need them and have vision screening yearly. This year started a new service area, the county DSS foster Care Children. To fund these needs, our major initiatives include fund raisers such as our annual golf tournament. Our 2016 Tournament will be our 31st consecutive year for this major project. We have weekly bingo during the months of April through November, three yearly Brighter Visions Drives, and more. We help support Camp Dogwood, the Marjorie McCune Center, Mountains Branch Library, our four local fire departments, and most recently have become involved with the Lake Lure Classical Academy with assistance in providing reading materials for students with visual impairments.
Lake Lure is a popular vacation spot. We welcome all Lions vacationing in our area to visit our club meetings, or stop by at Monday Night Bingo and say hello. Check out our most recent edition of The Lake Lure Lion, our Club newsletter.
