LA VISTA LIONS CLUB
WHO WE ARE:
The La Vista Lions Club is comprised of ordinary men and women 18 years old and older, who have come together to serve others. The La Vista Lions Club received its International charter on November 24, 1953. The Club is one of 56 clubs in Georgia Lions District 18-I (one of four districts in the state) and to Lions Clubs International, Lions Clubs International is the worlds largest service club organization with more than 1.35 million members in clubs scattered throughout more than 200 countries around the world.
WHAT WE DO:
The La Vista Lions Club's primary purpose is to serve the communities in our area and provide fellowship among like-minded members. In service to the citizens of DeKalb County, the Club implemented the Lions Quest program in 1986, a drug awareness program, and the "Getting Away Clean" self esteem program throughout the DeKalb County public school system in 1988. Also in 1988, the Club adopted the Sagamore Hills Elementary School and established the "Partners in Education" program which still exists today. The Club participated in the "Red Ribbon" (drug free schools) program in the DeKalb County public schools. In 1999, the Club sponsored the "Mike Glenn Hearing Impaired Basketball Camp" which continues today.
The Club has been a supporter of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation for many years providing financial support as well as collecting no longer needed eye glass donations. The Lighthouse is the central location for processing applications for eye care and hearing services for those Georgians unable to afford it themselves
Other organizations the Club supports include: Leader Dogs for the Blind, Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind, and the Georgia Lions Eyecare Center at Emory University.
