Hoodsport Lions Charter Celebration
November 9, 2013
How we got started
Jan Weatherly and Jim McCown are the two people that worked so hard to make this club a reality.
Hoodsport Lions Welcomed into the Lions Family in Style
By PZC Jan Weatherly
Exemplary teamwork created an extraordinary Charter celebration for the new Hoodsport Lions, November 9th, at the Lake Cushman Fire Hall. From 2:00 to 4:00 PM 75 Lions from across Washington state representing 22 clubs and 5 districts, welcomed this club of 20 into Multiple District 19. The guest list read like who’s who in Lions from MD19. The Hoodsport Lions officially received their charter from LCI on June 18, 2013, and chose to host this classy party when summer vacationers returned.
The tone for the program was set by harpist, Tessa Wood, playing in the background while attendees enjoyed finger foods from 4 countries, catered by Hoodsport Lion Debra Kilcup, owner of Ila’s Foods. Enticing raffle prizes pried dollars from the guest’s pockets as Lions vied for the weekend at Lions Dave and Karen Allison’s cabin on lovely Lake Cushman. Charter President Ed Brend motivated Lions new and old with his story about his three goals as he became a Tumwater Lion, many years ago. PZC Jan Weatherly, sponsoring Lion, skillfully organized the program featuring VCC Gary Reidel asking the Lions to “Dream Along with Me”, award of the charter and induction of members by IPDG Dave Risley, presentation of MD19 gifts by IPCC Gary Lockert and parade of clubs awarding gifts to Secretary Diane Good, President Jim Good and Charter President Ed Brend. CC Jerry Flood closed the program filling the hall with his golden tones singing God Bless America.
So now it begins: Hoodsport Lions take a bow. Let’s hear you roar!
