Obituary for David Abell 

David Claude “Pee Wee” Abell, 69 of Hollywood, MD passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2015. Born on January 13, 1946 he was the son of the late James Dawkins and Mary Violet Dean Abell. Pee Wee is survived by his sister Catherine V. “Ginny” Arnold of Mt. Morris, MI, and numerous nieces and nephews who took care of him daily. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Agnes “Binky” Taylor, Michael S. “Stanley” Abell, Joseph Bernard Abell, Sr., James Thomas Abell, Sr., Frances P. “Patsy” Burnette, Stephen Ignatius “Steve” Abell and James D. Abell, Jr.
Pee Wee worked as a laborer at the Charles Lumber Company in LaPlata, MD. Pee Wee helped to raise Donna Walls and Donald Gray. He was “Pop Pop” to Andrew and Megan Walls and Donald M. Gray. He enjoyed listening to his Blue Grass music and the many family gatherings held at his house. Pee Wee was a member of the Hollywood Lions Club and the St. John Francis Regis Council of Knights of Columbus #7914. Thanks to his fellow Knight Chris and his niece Samantha, he was able to enjoy various outings.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday June 9, 2015 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with prayers recited at 7:00PM and Knights of Columbus prayers at 7:15PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10:00AM in St. John’s Catholic Church, Hollywood, MD with Father Raymond Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Michael Abell, Allan Abell, J.B. Abell, Robert Abell, Don Arnold and Chris Woehrer. Honorary pallbearers will be David Yount, Samantha Abell, Brian Yount, Crystal Mills, Andrew Walls, Megan Walls, Donald M. Gray and members of the Hollywood Lions Club and Knights of Columbus. Ott Sr. (Bob) passed away peacefully at home with family beside him on December 12, 2008 after a long battle with Prostate Cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Emma Ott, along with his brother Andrew B. Ott Jr., and sisters Ruth O'Brien and Jane Schmauder. His biggest joy was being with his family; his loving wife Mary, and his children and grandchildren who lovingly called him Pop-Pop. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Rose, whom he married in 1956. He is also survived by his son Robert J. Ott Jr. and wife Judy; daughter Regina O. Sommer and husband Mike; daughter Mary O. Price and husband David; son Captain Gregory M. Ott, USN and wife Rebecca, and son Charles B.W. Ott; grandchildren Kyle and Eric Flynn, Jessica and Michael Ott, Katie and Christopher Ott, and Delaney and Zachary Ott. Bob was born August 1, 1932 in Irvington, New Jersey. He graduated from Seton Hall Prep in 1950 and attended Georgetown University and graduated with his DDS in 1956. After graduation he served in the United States Navy for two years and was honorably discharged and moved to Westfield, New Jersey. In Westfield, he practiced general dentistry for over 25 years before joining Delta Dental Plan of New Jersey as the Vice President of Professional Services in 1983. Six years later he was promoted to President and CEO and served in that capacity until his retirement in June 1996. In addition, from June 1994 thru June 1996 he served as the Chairman of the Board of Delta Dental Plans Association. He was a member of the ADA, NJDA, and the Central Dental Society as president, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists. While in Westfield, Bob was drawn to community service. He served as a regional board member for the Bank of New York. He was also a member of the local American Red Cross, serving as their chairman. He was a member of the Civil Defense, the Rotary Club of Westfield, the Westfield High School Booster Club, scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 73, and a member of Echo Lake Country Club. He was active with Holy Trinity Catholic Church serving on the Parish Council and as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. In 2003, he and Mary moved to Hollywood, Maryland where he retired continuing his hobbies of golf, boating and gardening and adding crabbing. In Hollywood, he was a member of St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church and served briefly on the Parish Council. He was also a member of the local Lions Club and the Navy League. The family will receive friends for Bob's Life Celebration at Brinsfield Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 16 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 17 at 10:00 am Interment will follow at St. George's Catholic Church Cemetery in Valley Lee, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Hospital or the Hospice House of St. Mary's.


 

 

Charles Charles Garner Hayden Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 10:00 AM in St. John's Catholic Church, Hollywood, MD with Fr. Raymond Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 5:00 -8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel, Leonardtown, MD where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM.Charles Garner Hayden, Sr. , 79, of Hollywood, MD, died June 15, 2009, at St. Marys Hospital in Leonardtown, MD, after an eight year battle with cancer. Born in Hollywood, MD on November 14, 1929, he was the son of the late Thomas Alvin Hayden and Dorothy Frances (Garner) Hayden of Hollywood, MD. He was the loving husband of Mary Lou (Tennison) Hayden whom he married on November 10, 1951 at Holy Face Catholic Church, in Great Mills, MD. He was the father of Charles G. Hayden, Jr. of California, MD and Robert W. Hayden, and his wife, Kathy, of Baldwin, MD. He is survived by six grandchildren, Nicole Hayden and Steve Walker of Dameron, MD, Britany Hayden of Park Hall, MD, Erin Hayden of Owings Mills, MD, Lauren Hayden of Baltimore, MD, Bobby Hayden of Baldwin, MD and Catherine Hayden of Hollywood, MD. He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Adelle Hayden and Lilian Walker. He is survived by his sisters, Caroline Murphy of Hollywood, MD and Louise Hewitt of Fort Washington, MD.  He was predeceased in death by his siblings, Thomas A. Hayden, Jr., William A. (Lefty) Hayden, Regina H. James and by his son Michael A. Hayden. Garner was a lifelong resident of Hollywood, MD, building his family home on his parents farm where his neighbors were all family. He was a Charter Member of the Hollywood Lions Club and was currently serving as Treasurer.He was a member of the St. Marys Amateur Radio Association for many years and was currently serving as Treasurer. He was a Lifetime Associate Member of the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a lifetime member of St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church where he attended grade school. He graduated from Great Mills High School in 1948. After graduating from High School, he went to work for SMECO as a member of the brush crew. He continued to work for SMECO until June of 1989 when he retired as part of management. Garner loved traveling in his motor home with his wife, being active in his various associations, stuffing hams for the HVFD and talking on his Ham Radios. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by whom he was affectionately called Daddy Garner”.The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, June 18, 2009, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, MD, where prayers will be said at 7:00 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 19, 2009, at 10:00 am at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church in Hollywood, MD.Pallbearers will be Joey Tennison and Jack Hewitt who are two of his god-sons, his nephews Steve Murphy, Dale James, Gil James and his grandson, Bobby Hayden. Honorary pallbearers will be his good friends Frank Dean, Charlie Wible, Billy Huseman, Francis Norris, Re-Pete Mattingly, Gene Talley and the Hollywood Lions Club.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Johns Building Fund or the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department.

Stephen “Steve” Ignatius Abell, 68, of St. Leonard, MD, formerly from Hollywood, MD, passed away in Prince Frederick, MD on July 19, 2013. Born on September 22, 1944 in Hollywood, MD, he was the son of the late James Dawkins and Mary Violet Dean Abell.  He was the loving husband of Janet Elaine Arnold Abell whom he married on September 2, 1967 in Mt. Morris, MI, and who preceded him in death on May 4, 2008.  Stephen is survived by his son Robert W. Abell of the Eastern Shore, grandson Robby (Erin) of St. Leonard, MD, 3 great grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his siblings; Michael S. “Stanley” Abell of Hollywood, MD., David C. “PeeWee” Abell of Hollywood, MD., Mary Agnes “Binky” Taylor of Alabama, Catherine V. “Ginny” Arnold of Flint, MI. Steve was preceded in death by brothers; Joseph Bernard Abell, James Thomas Abell, Sr., James Dawkins Abell, Jr., and sister Frances P. “Patsy” Burnette.  Stephen served in the United State Army from July 9, 1965 to April 28, 1967, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal.  Stephen also worked at the United States Pentagon, Washington, DC.  He enjoyed walking the boardwalk in Solomon’s Island and loved family gatherings.  The family will receive friends on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 5:00 PM- 8:00Pm with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD., with Father Eamon Dignan officiating.  A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD with Father Keith Woods officiating.  Interment will follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Hollywood, MD.  Pallbearers will be; Michael Abell, Allan Abell, J.B. Dale Frederick Snell, 74, of Hollywood, MD, died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Washington DC on March 22, 1939, he was the son of the late Dale Frederick Snell, Sr. and Jeanette Crabbe.

On September 14, 1963, he married his beloved wife, Aleida Vuyk Snell. He was employed by the Federal Government in Washington, DC until his retirement as an executive assistant with US Customs. He enjoyed travelling internationally and within the United States, particularly to San Diego, CA and the New England states. His hobbies included flower gardening, travelling, and observing nature. However, his greatest love was his family, especially the time he spent boating, fishing and crabbing with his grandchildren. He was a Trustee of Patuxent Presbyterian Church, past president and secretary of Hollywood Lions Club, and Volunteer Supporter of Young Life of St. Mary's County.

In addition to his wife, Dale is also survived by his children Bryan Snell (wife Amy) of Germantown, MD and Sharon Nolan (husband Brendan) of Greenville, NC; his sister, Suzanne deBeers (husband Sandy) of Waupaca, WI; and his grandchildren, Ryan Snell, Jacob Snell, Austin Snell, Ashley Nolan, Troy Nolan. He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and Dr. Edwin Snell.

Family will receive friends for Dale's Life Celebration on Friday, September 13, 2013 from 5 to 8pm at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Funeral Service will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Jones on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11am at Patuxent Presbyterian Church, 23421 Kingston Creek Road, California, MD 20619. Interment will be private.
