WHO ARE THE LIONS ?

A Registered Charity No. - 1055438

Lions Clubs are an international network of people who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities across the world.

Lions are ……

  • Members of the world’s largest and most active community service club organisation.
  • People who believe that by working together they will accomplish far more than would be possible as individuals.
  • People who cherish the social activities and fellowship of their own Club, but who also feel a close kinship with approximately 1.3 Million Lions in over 200 countries throughout the world.
  • Individuals dedicated to maintaining the highest ethical and moral standards  in their personal lives, and in all of their dealings with the public.
  • People who are serious about their commitment to helping people in need, but who have fun along the way.

As is common with all Lions throughout the world, the members of Grimsby Cleethorpes Lions Club cover all administration costs from their own annual membership fees, ensuring that every single penny donated does go to the causes that are chosen for support. Transparency and accountability operate at every level; in fact, The Financial Times has ranked Lions Clubs International Foundation the “best among non-government organisations worldwide with which to work”.

All Lions Clubs perform a service to their communities by raising funds for their Charity Accounts, and spending that money as they see fit, to best support people in need. Clubs also help people in more practical ways that will make their lives better.

Lions members are proud that the organisation is celebrating it's CENTENARY YEAR, and that it has a distinguished history of doing good works for the world. Local communities respect and trust their clubs, both because those clubs are made up of neighbours and friends who have a long record of support, and because of the Lions Clubs International name and legacy.

When you join our Lions Club, you join a global service organisation and a world wide network of friends. So at the same time as you’re helping the people of North East Lincolnshire, you can also contribute to Lions community efforts in other countries.

Grimsby Cleethorpes Lions Club was formed in 1968, and has approximately 25 members, these members raise about £18,000 every year from fund raising activities.

Over the years many hundreds of thousands of pounds has been raised in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area through a whole variety of projects. Most of this money is spent in the local area, but some international projects are also supported. Members also enjoy an active social life, with their Lions friends and families, and participate in community support projects where the aim is not to raise money, but simply to help people.

Fund raising activities include …. Regular Quiz Nights (Approx. £6,000), •Charity Golf Day - £2,500, Sale Days - £2,500 +, Christmas Collections - £1,000 +, and many other projects.

Our club is “twinned” with clubs in Belgium (Mont Saint Guibert), and Italy (Forli Host) and international visits take place every two years or so. All members and their partners are encouraged to be fully involved in these events when members of our twin clubs visit us … some staying in member’s homes, or we travel to the continent to see our friends. All costs associated with these visits are met by the members themselves … not a penny comes from our Charity Account. These three clubs also have an annual international charity project where each club donates approx. 500 Euros to a project chosen in turn by each club.
