About Grand Rapids Lions Club
-
Founded as the Downtown Grand Rapids Lions Club in 1919, our club has established an unprecedented track record of service to our community extending over nine decades.
-
When John S. Noel, our first President for the 1919-1920 year, banged the gavel opening our first meeting, Lions began to gather at weekly meetings to plan how we can better serve West Michigan and the world. While many Lion programs have centered around support for the visually impaired, we have worked hard to help many individuals or groups less fortunate than ourselves. Many of our current and past projects are highlighted in the "Club Projects" section of this web site.
- Our membership has included countless men and women from many walks of life including business owners, lawyers and judges, business leaders and business workers, civic leaders, doctors, the world of finance, the helping professions and many, many others including a congressman from Grand Rapids who became President of the United States. These fine people distinguished themselves not only in their professions but together in service to our fellow man.

The Grand Rapids Lions are open to women and men ages 21 and above. All that is required is that you have a desire to meet, network and socialize with some great people in our community and help us serve those less fortunate by participating in your choice of our many service programs and activities.
-
By joining our club, you will be part of a worldwide Lion movement consisting of over 1.3 million members in 44,700 clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas.
Come join us for one of our lunch meetings to find out more about our organization and the tremendous outreach we have in our community.

How To Donate to Grand Rapids Lions Club
- The Grand Rapids Lions have done much for our community but there is much left undone. There are children who are having difficulty learning in school because their families can't afford to buy them glasses. There are visually impaired who can't experience the world outside their homes because they don't have a trained leader dog. You can help us do more in our community.
- The Grand Rapids Lions Club is a part of the "Grand Rapids Community Foundation." Did you know that a couple can donate $400 to the Foundation in the name of the Grand Rapids Lions Club annually and receive a $200 tax credit on your Michigan state taxes? That’s $200 off the tax you owe, not just a deduction!

Remember the Grand Rapids Lions in your estate planning. Bequests in your name will do great things in your name long after your passing. Lynn Francis at lynnfrancis@grar.com can help in this area.
Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.
