January 26, 7:00 p.m., FH City Hall

Featuring Bob Olsen, Ice Palace expert

Bob Olsen will be with us for our January Social Meeting at Falcon Heights City Hall, on January 26th, at 7 p.m. Please invite friends and neighbors to the event.  He’s an entertaining and engaging speaker.  He’ll bring a slide presentation.

Bob Olsen has been the official unofficial historian of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival Ice Palaces since 1967. In 1975, Bob convinced the faculty at Saint Olaf College that the best way to earn a degree in music education was to build an ice palace for the Winter Carnival - they agreed. Since then, Bob has been a consultant for every ice structure built in Saint Paul. His work on ice palace history has been featured in the Guinness Book of World Records, Time Magazine, Architecture Minnesota, Progressive Architecture, National Geographic World Magazine, and more. When asked which palace is his favorite, Bob is known to say, “the next one.”
