FAIRHAVEN LIONS CLUB

2018 REVIEW

January – We began the New Year with little expectations but what a great year it has been! Lion Diane Brodeur won awards in the District photo contest at the District 33S Mid-Winter Conference.  Another highlight of the Conference was being presented with the Lion PID I Doug Sime MLERF Program Support and Participation Award and patch.

February – Olivia Zak won the Fairhaven Lions Peace Poster contest and voted the best in the District 33S

March – An Induction Ceremony by PDG Dave Barbour was held for our 10 new Lions, Lisa Forcier, Jesse Moniz, Marybeth Pereira, Robert Forcier, Rebecca Harrison, Haroula Kotrotsios, Chris Moniz, Ryan Moniz, Jason Pereira and Dave Couto.

Our Raising a Reader Participation for District 33S enthusiastically began.

April - Our annual Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by Rockland Trust, was held at St. Mary’s Church. The Fairhaven Lions sponsored a Dinner for the Visually Impaired chaired by Lion Rita Arsenault.

May – A Foxwood Resort Casino Day planned by many of our new Lions proved to be a fantastic success!  White Cane Day was held at Benoit Square and Stop and Shop.  On Memorial Day the Fairhaven Lions participated in the Big Flag raising the Fairhaven High School and the annual Memorial Day Parade.

June – Congratulations were given to our 2018 scholarship winners, Luke Lariviere and Steven Days-Merrill.  Once again, the Fairhaven Lions distributed water at the annual Father’s Day Road Race.

Malasada Bread Pudding was a highlight of our participation in the Fairhaven Home Coming.  Atria Assisted Living, once again, joined us in washing approximately 1000 eye glasses!

Claudette and Bob Costa, Henrietta Gagne' and Louise Quintin joined the Fairhaven Lions Club and were put to work immediately.

July – Fairhaven Lions welcomed Kathy Salem as the new District 33S Governor.  The Club was all smiles as it marched the July 4th parade down Green Street.

August - Fairhaven Lions gave out popcorn at the annual National Night Out held at Fairhaven High School.  Showing their community support, the Club donated time for the NFIA Fifties Night.

September – Along with members of the NFIA, our Club held a water stop for marchers and spectators of the Our Lady of Angels Procession.  Doreen and Brian Cormier, and Jack Daly joined the Fairhaven Lions Club!  An Induction Ceremony by PDG Skip Becotte as held for our new Lions.  The Fairhaven Lions was also presented with a MLERF award by PDG Deb Grassi. Sadly we lost a fellow Fairhaven Lion, Henrietta Gagne'.

October - The annual Harvest Fun Day was held in the rain but the event went on with much success.

November – The Fairhaven Lions participated in the Veterans Day Parade and Flag Raising Ceremony held at the Fairhaven High School.  Our Spaghetti Dinner, sponsored by St. Anne’s Credit Union, went off amazingly, as usual!  Lion Louise Quintin was Guest Speaker at the Cabinet Advisory Meeting.  Louise did a fantastic job!

December – Living centerpieces were again a highlight at the Town Hall Shops.  Diane Brodeur and many Lions participated in creating these sought after pieces. The Lions, in conjunction with the Fairhaven Senior Center and the Commission on Disability, distributed Sand for Seniors in an effort to prevents winter falls.

As 2018 comes to an end, King Lion Bill Moniz wishes to thank everyone who had participated in our events over the year and to all volunteers who worked to make it such a successful year!
