Announcement

Annual Fireworks display at the Red Lion Field, Newburgh

It is with great regret that Douglas Valley Lions Club have to announce the cancellation of their annual Fireworks Display which for over 40 years has been held at the Red Lion field, Newburgh. We live in an age where safety issues at events like the Fireworks Display require more and more stringent insurance conditions to be met which consequently leads to rising costs. DVLC have always strived to ensure that the event was managed in a very responsible way to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all the people who attended, however, a recent review of our insurance cover and an assessment of all resources needed to be in place to ensure a safe event has led to the conclusion that the costs involved, and the manpower required, results in too high a risk for the Club to carry on with the event.

This conclusion has not been taken lightly, the event has always been a highlight of the year for Newburgh and surrounding villages, an event that offered a safe haven for celebrating a traditional Guy Fawkes Night. In addition, it has provided an excellent fundraising activity which for many years has allowed DVLC to help many people in the district and elsewhere.

Douglas Valley Lions Club would like to thank everyone for their support over many years, we are especially indebted to the help and assistance of all management and staff of the Red Lion . However, in today’s environment the decision to call it a day is an inevitable result.
