Our Clubstarted in the year 1986 and completedGlorious years of Humanitarian Services. We the members of the Lions Club of Dibrugarh Brahmaputra Valley are running a school for Spastic Children under the name 'BLESSINGS' since 1989 registered under the Societies Registration Act, in the year 1986 and Eye Bank under the name LIONS DRISHTI EYE BANKsince 2008 in association with Drishti Netralaya, Dibrugarh, life member of Eye Bank Association of India(EBAI), Hydrabad. Earlier we were running an Eye Care Centre with a regular OPD since 25 years and we have conducted more than 7000 Free IOL operation with the help of Dist. Blindness Control Society & own being encouraged by fellow citizens we have established an full fledged Eye Hospital at our Lions Care Centre Building, A.T. Road, Dibrugarh. It is named as 'LION K K SAHARIA EYE HOSPITAL', as an honour & tribute to our Charter President & Past Dist. Governor, Dist 322D Lion MJF K K Saharia. 

Our Club has recently done Twinning with LIONS CLUB OF ABERDEEN, DIST. 19 G, WA, USA. Aberdeen Club Estd. in the Year 1940. web : www. aberdeenlions.com

To run the Hospital smoothly we have formed a Trust under the name 'Dibrugarh Lions Brahmaputra Foundation' and all contributions are exempted under Section 80 (G) of the IT Act. 

We have engaged a fully professional team under the leadership of a highly qualified eye specialist, Dr. Arundhati Tamuli, MS, Dr. Eli Chelleng, DO, Dr. Divya Singh, D.O. and our club member Lion Dr. Ramesh Agarwall, MS is guiding us on a regular basis.

We have already made an investment of 60 lacs for the Building construction and another 75 Lacs (total $ 2.7 Lakhs) for procurement of Equipments. Mr. Paban Singh Ghatowar, Member of Parliament being very impressed with the Hospital recently donated a Mobile van to the hospital from MP LADS fund.


 

Our activities (Since Estd.) from 1st Apr. 2011 to 31st August 2012 
 
1. OPD Cases registered 6630
 
2. IOL operations 1560 patients (Paid 421 & FREE 1139) {Operation starts from Oct.’ 2011}
 
3. We have collected 108 pairs of Eyes since last 3 years. earlier the eyes were handed over to AMCH and Shankar Netralaya, Guwahati for Kerotoplasty (Transplant). 
 
4. Keratoplasty - Since Oct. 2011 we have started Keratoplasty at our own centre and have done successfully Keratoplasty 27 nos. of Eye. 
    
Eye Donation Awareness Seminars 
Jointly with Drishti Eye Bank regular Eye Donation awareness seminars are being conducted at various Schools, Colleges, Govt. Departments, OIL and so on from last 3 years. This is done by Multi Media presentation with projector and laptop. 
 
Aim of the hospital
Is to provide free check-ups, treatment and cataract operation to persons who cannot afford the treatment. The Main aim & objects is to make Dibrugarh District a Cataract Free Zone. For this the Hospital has understanding with Dist. Blindness Control Society, Dibrugarh. The DBCS will detect Cataract patients and send patients to the hospital for operation. Twice a week our conveyance goes to pick up identified cases 12/14 nos. After operation, 2 nights stay and final check-up the patients are dropped back to their places as per norms of DBCS.
 
Ambulance
Shree Pawan Singh Ghatowar, DoNer Minister donated a 14 seater Ambulance (Tata Winger) from his M.P. Lad's funds. 
 
OTHER LANDMARK  PROJECT of the club
‘BLESSING’ a school for Spastics and mentally challenged children estd. 1989, and is serving 48 regular students besides 50 OPD. For permanent setup of the centre LCIF granted $ 75,000 and the building "Lion care centre" was completed in the year 2002. The centre has trained staff, speech therapy unit etc. Centre also has regular Yoga, Dance & Music Classes for Spastic Children.  
 
We also organize various service projects for the betterment and upliftment of the society with the help of Lionesses, Leos, Neighbouring Clubs and District Administration etc.

Some interesting cases -

Eye Keratoplasty (transplant) was successfully done on a 6 year old girl & a 8 year old Boy.

A 13 year old boy having cancer in his eye was operated upon and an artificial eye was implanted.

The Club is registered under 80 G(5) of Income Tax act no. 117/80G/CIT/DBR2010-11/5436-45 dt. 28th Feb 11

and Society Act XXI of 1860 vide No. RS/1937 of 1986-87.

Our Eye Bank ‘Lions drishti Eye Bank’ Life Member of Eye Bank Association of India.

The Foundation “Dibrugarh Lions Brahmaputra Foundation” is also registered Under 80 G(5) of Income Tax act no. 119/80G/CIT/DBR2009-10/372-82 dt. 13th Apr’ 11
