Talcot Scovill Annual Memorial Scholarship

This Annual Memorial Scholarship, in the name of Talcot Scovill who has bestowed the funds for this scholarship, is now available to those interested in pursuing further vocational/technical education.

Talcot was a lifelong resident of Deep River and a founding member of the Deep River/Chester Lions Club.  During his 59 years as a Lion, Talcot held the position of President, Treasurer, Secretary, Director and Chairman of many of our fund raisers. Talcot also received the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation’s “Knights of the Blind” award in 2000 for his extraordinary effort on behalf of the blind and visually impaired.

Being a Lion was just a fraction of his philanthropy throughout his local community. He was also a member of the Deep River Fire Department, a 40 year superintendent for the Chester Fair Grounds (building all of the original building and bleachers), a 60 year Mason, a member of the VFW and the Deep River Town Hall Restoration Committee. He was also active in the agricultural fairs in Connecticut and was a representative in the state legislature.

Even now, his generosity lives on through this scholarship.  He is still helping the community and making a difference for years to come.
