A brief History and operations of the Crystal City Lions Club

The Crystal City Lions Club was chartered by Lions International April 23, 1959; there were 39 original Charter members. The Boissevain Lions Club is our sponsoring club.

The Club was formed as a supper club meeting at   6:00 pm for supper in the Lamplighter Room of the Crystal City Hotel. The club   met twice a month  on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays  of each month, and for several years the Lioness club catered to our suppers in the Community Hall, now  we meet at Santa Lucia’s. The Crystal City club decided many years ago to only meet once every month as that seemed to work better for all our members. Little has changed, although many long time members are now retired, we have a solid base of members very willing to “ Make  A Difference in our Community”.

Membership in the club fluctuates over the years. We have been as low as 19 and as high as 40, as of December 2013 we have 26 valued and active members. Although it is not mandatory to attend any particular number of meetings, we do encourage everyone to come out as often as possible as well as to assist in the fund raising and volunteer opportunities as they arise. All members are valued no matter how much time a member can give to the club and its activities.

To stream line our meetings and projects we have a set up a Committee system, each club member is part of a committee and each committee will take on a project or club function to manage. All members of the club participate in the project even though they may not be in that particular Committee.

The Crystal   City Lions Club is very active in the community with numerous fund raising and volunteer  projects. Please take a moment to review our Budget and Projects and Funds Raisers information sheet to get an idea of where we spend your time and Club money.
