SIGHT SERVICE – A local club service project to provide eyeglasses and sight service for the needy in our community. Those in need are identified through schools and health service agencies and the club sight service committee evaluates written requests, based on applications filed. When approved, the individuals are referred to a local optometrist for testing and glasses. Our club pays for the testing and for eyeglasses. Also, on occasions where extensive eye medical services are required, the individual is referred to our District 12-0 Sight Service in Chattanooga where cornea transplants and other major services are provided without charge.

KIDS SIGHT SERVICE – This project is a unique part of our Tennessee Lions Eye Center, which involves screening eyes of children from 1 to 6 years of age. Screenings are held at day care centers, Head Start Centers, elementary schools, community centers, factories and various other locations. The results are forwarded to the Tennessee Lions Eye Center at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital for evaluation. Our primary goal is to prevent childhood blindness through early detection and treatment of the most common vision disorders that can lead to blindness. Our Club has provided outstanding leadership and service in this program for the past several years; leading the state in all major aspects of the project. During this period our Club has screened over 8,000 children in Putnam County.

WHITE CANE – Our Club supports White Cane, a District project for sight service. Through White Cane we provide support for our District 12-0 Eye Bank and Sight Service in Chattanooga, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Recordings for the Blind & Dyslexic, TN School for the Blind, Lions World Services for the Blind, and Lions Diabetes Day Youth Camp.

GIFTS FOR SIGHT – Our Club collects used eyeglasses throughout the community as a service. Those glasses are shipped to recycling centers, where they are cleaned, tested, and packaged for use in underdeveloped countries. Lions, church groups, and various other teams utilize these used eyeglasses to help those in need.

LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION (LCIF) – Our Club supports LCIF through Melvin Jones Fellowships and personal gifts. This is our worldwide foundation with a primary goal to eradicate preventable blindness throughout the world.

DIABETES AWARENESS - A project to serve our community by helping coordinate information to the public concerning the sight risks associated with Diabetes, the number one cause of blindness in America.

TTU SCHOLARSHIP – Our Club has funded a $10,000 Endowment under the Tennessee Technological University Foundation to support sight conservation. This endowment provides an annual scholarship to a qualifying student pursuing a course of study in Pre-Optometry/Pre-Medicine.
