Essay Contest 2011-2012

            You are invited to participate in the Lion’s annual Americanism Essay Contest. 

This year’s topics:               

Elementary Grades: My Favorite American Hero Is ___________ (and why)

Middle School:  What Patriotism Means to Me

High School:  How I as a Young Adult Can Help in the Preservation of Our

American Heritage

Adult Non-Lion:  How I Observe Veterans Day

Contest Rules

1.  Minimum of 300 words, maximum of 500 words. 

 

2.  Entries must be typed, double-spaced and on 8-1/2 by 11 white paper. If using a computer it is suggested that a clean or simple font in a 12 or 14 be used for ease of reading.

 

3.  Your name, address, phone number, either your school name or ‘Home Schooled’, and Clear Spring Lions Club must be in the upper left hand corner of page one.

4.  All entries should be turned in to the Clear Spring Library or mailed to arrive by January 3, 2012

5.  If you do not reside in the Clear Spring School district, please contact your local Lions Club.

 

6.  Prizes include             1st place in each division $100.00 series E savings bond

                                                2nd place in each division $75.00 series E savings bond

                                                3rd place in each division $50.00 series E savings bond

 

7.  Each winner will be recognized at a Lions Club meeting where they will be requested to read their essay and at a performance of the Lions Club Minstrel/Variety Show.  The winner’s entries will be sent to the District level.

 

8.  District winners will be requested to read their essays at the last cabinet meeting of the District 22W Lions, where they will be presented a USA flag and a $100 savings bond.
