Meetings

Include many other community activities.   Examples are:

Pancake Days:  Spring and fall at Carbondale Town Square – featuring the world's largest pancake rotisserie.

Diabetes Awareness Day:  annual event in support of The American Diabetes Association recognizing the relationship of Diabetes and sight related illnesses.

Student Recognition: The Club works closely with school teachers and administrators to support and recognize Outstanding Student Citizens at the Carbondale Middle School and High School. Students are introduced and recognized at a Club luncheon meeting.

Highway Beautification: In the spring and fall you’ll find us south of town removing trash alongside Highway 51.

Honoring Community Service by others:  "The Carbondale Lions Club is not merely a meet and lunch bunch. They participate; they work and work. In all their projects they have made a small contribution to the community and the public good, and have a pardonable pride in what they have done". This is how David Kenney described our club.  We honor him and the spirit of patriotism, dedication, and service toward making our country, by providing annually a David Kenney Service Award to a Southern Illinois resident and who is not a member of our Club.

Honoring Community Service by Members:  The Ellis Mitchell service award is given annually to a member of the Carbondale Lions Club in recognition of his/her service to the club and community over a period of years.  The award exemplifies the generosity, candidness, committment, vision and leadership in the club demonstrated by Ellis Mitchell during his sixty years of service.

THE LIONS OF CARBONDALE FOUNDATION

The Carbondale Lions Club has established The Lions of Carbondale Foundation whose purpose is to fund charitable activities, especially the traditional ones of the Lions Club. Individuals or corporations desiring to aid the charitable projects of the Lions Club may now deduct the contribution on their income tax forms.

Anyone can contribute by making a tax-deductible gift to the Foundation or by providing for a posthumous gift via a trust, will or insurance policy.

For a colorful brochure outlining club activities and additional foundation details, please contact the Carbondale Lions Club, P.O. Box 174, Carbondale, Illinois 62903.

Flag Presentations
