Cape Coral Lions: Eye Screening Program

CAPE CORAL LIONS CONDUCTED HEARING,

VISION SCREENING FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS

On Thursday and Friday, January 19-20, the Cape Coral Lions Club conducted free vision and hearing screenings for students at the

Four Freedoms Pre-school in Cape Coral, FL

About 50 children ages 3 to 4 were screened.

Although such screenings are often conducted by the public schools, they are typically done on 2nd-grade (7 year-old) students.  Early screenings such as those done by the Lions can identify potential issues at younger ages so they can be addressed in a more timely manner.  Notices are sent to the parents of any student whose test results are concerning, suggesting the student be referred to an appropriate medical professional for more thorough testing.

Lions Club International (see www.lionsclubs.org ), now celebrating its 100-year anniversary, is the largest service organization in the world, comprising 1.6 million members in over 240 countries.  All members are volunteers and 100% of all funds contributed by or raised from the public are utilized for charitable service projects.

The Cape Coral Lions Club (CCLC) has voted to sponsor a school nurse, Nurse Nettie Cortes, as part of their support of the "Sight for Students'" program.  "Operating nationally through a network of community partners, "Sight for Students" provids free eye exams and glasses to students in low-income, underserved families."

The Time For the Partnership to Start is NOW!

The first team of Lions from Cape Coral will go out into a school Wednesday, November 9, 2016.  Lions Judy and Bill Moulton will report to Bobbie Noonan Child Care of Cape Coral at 8:30 am and will meet the team of Lee County Lions Preschool Screening Academy and Team Leader Glenn Chenot.

Leader Glenn will assemble them for a training session with the team and then Lions Judy and Bill will take part in the Screening at the school.  This is a very exciting first experience as they have heard so much about how wonderful this process is for the students and their families.

EYEGLASS RECYCLING !!

We have a very active and extensive EYEGLASS RECYCLING PROGRAM in the works here in Cape Coral.  There are many, if not most all, vision centers participating.  This is a great start in gathering as many used eyeglasses as possible and "seeing"  to it that they are passed on to a person who can truly benifit from them.  We thank all who donate their used eyeglasses to this recycling effort.

The next phase of this program is the purchase and distribution of EYEGLASS RECYCLING COLLECTION BOXES at selected sites around the city of Cape Coral.  This will  enable people to bring their glasses to those boxes for our collection.  This is in the works currently...."keep and EYE out for them.
