The Lions Club of Capalaba participate in numerous club projects throughout the year.

Lions Christmas Cakes and Puddings

The Lions Christmas Cake and Pudding program has been a major fund raising project of Lions Australia since 1965 and raised more than $56million. The proceeds from this project are donated back into the community on great causes including Blindness Prevention and Vision improvement projects, Medical Research, Children’s Mobility Foundation, Eye Health Program, Hearing Dogs, Disaster Relief, Aged Care, Drug Awareness and Youth Programs.

You can rest assured that should you purchase a product from this program the proceeds generated will be put to good use in the community.

Youth of the Year

Youth of the Year is a public speaking competition that happens every year, this competition allows young people who seek to improve their skills. The main activities involved in running of Lions Youth of the Year include initial promotion in schools and the local community, judging of candidates, selection and announcement of the national winner, arrangements for the winners overseas travel and attendance at an international youth camp and other finalists travel throughout Australia. There are different levels that the candidates go through, which are:

  • Club judging
  • Zone judging (in some districts only)
  • Regional judging
  • District judging
  • State finals
  • National finals

Entry for Youth of the Year is open to youth who are attending or have attended a high school or equivalent standard of school in any other educational establishment, including correspondence school, in the lions year in which the national finales to be conducted,who are over the age of 15 and under 19 years of age at June 30th, in the year of the final.

     

 

Operation Teddy Bear

Operation Teddy Bear is another one of our club projects, this year we donated teddy bears and koalas to local police and fire station as well as our local hospital. These teddy bears and koalas will act a as a comfort toy for children going through a tough time.

        

 

Lap The Map

This World Diabetes Day in 2022 is on Monday 14 November, we call for Australians to ‘Lap the Map’ for diabetes prevention. 

Lions Clubs across the country host family friendly walks and community events to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of the diabetes epidemic in Australia.

It doesn’t matter how far you walk or run, it’s about being involved, getting active and moving together. 

All funds raised will goes towards diabetes awareness, prevention and research.
